Looks much better from the inside than it does from the outside. I found the prices to be a bit high. Service was friendly. Has an "Asterix" feel to it.
Posted by: "Patrick" at 11:59 am on 26.May.2003It's the most wonderful restaurant I've ever been in. The food is lovely and the waiters are very friendly, especially a new one called Jessica. Thanks to her the atmosphere is really great! So don't hesitate a minute: GO to this place and I can swear you that you won't be disappointed at all!!
Posted by: "Cécile" at 9:59 am on 26.Jun.2003Wonderful! The area outside doesn't look nice but prepare to step a few hundred years back into the French countryside when you enter. Wonderful crepes, fondue, and all wine is biological (Biologish anbau), amazingly extensive selection!

Posted by: "rainald" at 6:55 pm on 31.Mar.2004I was there once this January or February. I liked their cidre, which is otherwise hard to find. I don't recall exactly what I ate (it was the prix-fixe menu, fish option), but it was good enough that I was favorably disposed to returning sometime. And not terribly expensive for French cuisine. I think the whole tab with food and drink and tip was a little over EUR 20. The atmosphere is reasonably cozy, the host/owner is friendly, but it was kind of empty for an hour after opening time (6 p.m. on a weekday).
Posted by: "Doug" at 11:14 pm on 1.Apr.2004We went on Friday night and it was packed! Food was great although soup portions are tiny! Fondues looked good and will try next time. Crepes were excellent. Near the end the owner dressed up as Asterix and had some girls wearing fur dancing in the tables. Had a great meal in a lovely atmosphere. Recommend it!
Posted by: "Lisa" at 12:52 pm on 13.Dec.2004I was here recently, took my folks and it was without a doubt one of the best meals I've ever had. Can recommend the shared platter both for starters and desert. Homemade cider was also delicious, and the wine selection was excellent. Comes highly recommended.
Posted by: "Rouge" at 5:07 pm on 13.May.2005I was here last night and I really have to say that I was completely disappointed. I had been here once last year and it was really good but yesterday was terrible!! I went with my family who came from America to visit me and they were disappointed, too. The owner was really impolite, the food took very long to be in our table and the owner took more than 15 minutes to bring us the bill after we asked for it, in spite that the restaurant was almost empty. I will for sure don´t go anymore in this restaurants. There are better ones in Munich.
Posted by: "Marycarmen" at 10:43 am on 30.Nov.2006Reserving a table using the legaulois.de web-site worked well. Since the restaurant is close to the Leopoldstraße, there is a lot of traffic noise. I wouldn't recommend sitting outside. There is also no garden at the back. Inside, the restaurant looks pretty much like an old German "Kneipe" (in need of redecoration) with a few French details. The atmosphere on a Friday nicht was lively, most of the guests being a little older than your typical restaurant in Schwabing. The food was good, although not "haute cuisine", but reasonably priced. The service was however slow and unfriendly. I would not recommend Le Gaulois.
Posted by: "APJ" at 2:23 pm on 26.Aug.2007We went last Saturday evening and really enjoyed ourselves. My wife wanted (cheese) fondue, and it is a meal that I enjoy as well. We called ahead to make a reservation, which I highly recommend. They answered in French, which was good for us as well, as my wife speaks French and neither of us has much German. We sat with a young German couple and almost had a third couple squeezed into the table. The decor is odd, with strange things hanging on the walls and tiny lights strung about. Our cheese fondue was perfect. I have had a lot of fondue, and this cheese was very good. We had a nice Chardonnay, served very well. Dessert, a crepe with chocolate syrup drizzled over bananas with flaming rum poured over it, was very nice. The service was great, though the waitress took several tries to figure out how to use her credit card machine.
