Update: As of 2007 this venue is no longer called Lacant. It's not known what the new name is. If you know, please leave a comment at the bottom of this page. Thanks!
Lacant - Leopoldstr. 25, 80802 Munich, Germany
The only thing that is constant about 25 Leopoldstrasse is the street address. The entity which exists here seems to change every year, if not every six months. Up until two years ago there was a fairly popular bar called Aficionados. That closed and something else appeared in it's place. Later Cuba Libra opened but it was never busy whenever I looked in. So I guess it died. Now we have a new dance bar, Lacant, which opened in December 2003. Let's see whether it'll have more staying power than its predecessors.
The floorplan is a number of lounge areas around the edges (separated into smoking and non-smoking). A standing area and a dancefloor in the middle.
During previous incarnations of this bar there were always burly looking doorstaff working the entrance. They gave an intimidating impression, as if this was some kind of exclusive trendy spot. In reality they probably just scared the custom away - seeing as that bar has obviously now closed. What is the Lacant door policy like?

They are open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9pm until 2am. From 7pm on Wednesdays for after work, and until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. Slightly different styles of music for each day of the week, but mostly rock and pop chart classics, new and old.

I remember when ages and ages ago, way before Aficionados, this location used to be called "Big Apple". At the time it was very popular. This was considered one of the Munich "super clubs" and all the famous people would schmooze here. Obviously it's not been like that for a long time though. The Promi's have moved on to P1 and Nektar.

Posted by: "Joe" at 3:07 pm on 4.Apr.2004When this place was Cubra Libre it varied with regard to whether it was busy or not. The best night was ALWAYS Thursday night because it was ladies night and the ladies got free entry with 2 free drinks. Guys had to pay 5 Euros to get it but it was always busy and full of women. I pulled a Cuban girl and a Polish girl out of here and miss my Thursdays there. A mate shagged some bird in the toilet there on my birthday too. (How delicately put!) I've never been in here since it changed to Lavants and you don't see queues outside like you used to so I guess there's not much happening!?
