Kytaro at the Reitschule - Königstr. 43, Munich, Germany

In my opinion, the newly opened Kytaro in Schwabing is now one of the best Greek restaurants in Munich. Located alongside Cafe Reitschule it has three eating areas: an indoor restaurant, a conservatory, and a beer garden. I highly recommend eating in the gardens under the trees if you're looking for a dinner with some atmosphere. All the waiters have a good sense of humour and if you speak Greek then even better, you will get along a treat! The night I was there we ordered a three course meal with a mixed antipasti type starter. Wonderful cheese, scampis, and filled paprika started off the evening well. The starters range between 3-10 Euros. For a main course I would recommend the Lammhaxen since the meat was tender to the point where is just "fell off the bone". Main courses range from 10 to 16 Euros. ...

Kytaro - Greek restaurant, Munich

Each course was very generous and full of taste. We washed the food down with a couple of bottles of Syrah/Mandrarossa and at 17 Euros a bottle it was good value for money. We didn't wait until late in the evening but were informed by the bar staff that it starts to get lively around 11pm. Whether that includes the traditional plate smashing routine I wouldn't know but I'm sure the parquet flooring wouldn't stand up to much abuse!

I recommend you give Kytaro a try if you are in a group and are looking for a lively, unpredictable evening. We even spotted a few recognisable faces at the tables suggesting that Munich's high society also think it's worth a visit. With the Cafe Reitschule upstairs being one of the "in" places in Munich then you can always go there for a drink after piling on the pounds of Greek food. For those of you with less of a club attitude, you could pop around the corner and watch the horse riding school instead.

Note: this location was formerly home to a restaurant called "Le Caribeau". This address seems to change hands at least every couple of years if not every year. This is probably deliberate - to keep it fresh and trendy.

Also note: not to be confused with another Greek restaurant called Kytaro which used to be located at Innere Wiener Str. 36, Haidhausen, but is now closed.

I chose this restaurant on recommendation of the TT site, but felt robbed! ;-) The service was at first friendly, but after half an hour and 3 waiters later we were still waiting on our beer. When the bill (finally) arrived, we were overcharged for 2 beers, which we didn't pay and (funnily enough) didn't leave a tip! The food was OK, although it didn't look very home made, rather microwaved. Shame! Hope this is just a bad experience and that the rest of the *recommended* restaurants on TT are worthwhile....

Please, the NEW Kytaro at the Reitschule belongs to the same owner as the old Kytaro in the Innere Wienerstrasse!!! They only changed the address! Very simple. And I'm sure this address won't change again just in order 'to keep fresh'... you'll see!

My roommate went there yesterday and they also overcharged her, three beers instead of one and they added a bottle of Merlot which they didn't have either. Watch out! According to hear the crowd was extremely trendy!

So what did your friend learn from this experience ? Correct, always check your bill before paying. This happens all the time even in the best restaurants around Munich.....

I've been to Kytaro about 10 times inthe last twelve months. The food is consistently good, the service consistently inconsistent. There are good looking people there, not that they have anything to say for themselves (even if you could hear them over the noise).

This place is great. The waiters make you feel so special. The food is superb. The waiter's wine recommendations are spot on as well. My only compaint is about the hostess. We (a party of two) arrived one Friday night with no reservation. She (quite rudely) told us that there were no tables. However, one of the waiters had already found one for us. Will definitely go there again.

This place is absolutely over-rated, over-priced and under-staffed! Food is mediocre at best. I was there a couple of times and always left disappointed. Will definitely never go there again!!

Went there last night for a birthday! The service was perfect which i have never really had before in munich! We only had the Fish but it was on a par with anything i have had at a restaurant away from the sea. I will go there again!!
