Kushiage Enn opened in early 2007, I think. The owners came here from Japan and had a Japanese TV crew following them, making a documentary that was shown on Japanese TV this past weekend.
Apparently it's the first Japanese restaurant in Munich (or maybe it was in Germany, I can't remember) that doesn't do Sushi. They only do meals like Tonkatsu, Hirekatsu, Katsucurry, and various other fried things.
The lunch menu is around 8-10 euros, including rice, salad, and miso soup.

The food is excellent, and the manner of serving it--slowly, bit by bit--is very calming.

Posted by: Dunia at 1:37 am on 6.Feb.2008It is run by a lovely Japanese couple and the atmosphere is totally relaxing. You can watch your food getting ready, and when it gets served Mr. Matsubara (who prepared it) explains everything on your plate to you. When we went there a couple of days ago around early afternoon there were no other people there in the restaurant. So Mr. Matsubara had a lot of time for chatting with us, explaining Japanese food in general to us, the differences between those different kinds of rice and tea, we got a little introduction into the Japanese language and Japan in general. We had a great time there and did I mention that the food is excellent? ;-) Oh, and try Oshiruko for desert! Yummy!
Posted by: "Bettina" at 12:15 am on 6.Mar.2008I went there today and i have to say that the food and service was worth every minute pedalling throught wind and rain. The owner and his wife speak english and german and they are really nice, ready to answer any questions you can have about the food they serve or anything really. I wish there were more places where with one visit you suddenly want to become a regular. Oh and, what i think is also important, it was relatively cheap (for Okonomiyaki, Tea and Dessert i paid 12,30 € + tip). I'm definitely going back and the Oshiruko mentioned above was real yummy :D
Posted by: "Agnes" at 4:59 pm on 6.Jul.2008I've been there almost every week for a year now. I think it's the best restaurant in Munich and the family are so friendly and kind people, too.
Posted by: "Marcus" at 5:55 pm on 9.Aug.2008This is not the First Japanese Restaurant in Munich,I used to go to one back in the 80,s called the Daitokai, which was situated in the Nordendstr.I have't tried this new place as of yet,but will certainly be giving it a shot
Posted by: Reallydimjim at 11:16 am on 12.Aug.2008Learn to read. The article says it's the first Japanese restaurant THAT DOESN'T DO SUSHI.
Posted by: "Baka Gaijin" at 4:32 am on 13.Aug.2008Daitokia didn't do sushi either, it was one of those "Japanese" restaurants that cook the food on a hot plate in front of you.
Posted by: Allershausen at 11:01 am on 13.Aug.2008Nobody did sushi in Munich in the 80,s? I went to the Daitokai a few times back then ,it was always good food and fun to watch the chefs preparing the food. NO SUSHI THOUGH (Baka)
Posted by: godber at 3:02 pm on 13.Aug.2008Dear Baka , There is no need to be rude about a persons reading ability, just because they prove that everything you write should not be taken as the last word regarding Japanese Restaurants in Munich.
