This is a very popular Thai restaurant, read any of the German reviews out there and they all give it glowing reports. Personally I'd go as far as to say it's the best Thai in Schwabing, but it's really not that fantastic. OK, so the food is good. And the atmosphere is pleasant. But I'd never go out of my way to go back. Strange because lots of the local population do go back. You _always_ have to reserve a table, at least a day in advance. My cynical side tells me it's just a place to 'see and be seen' rather than popular because of it's merit. But I know lots won't agree with me. As for the service, well, I once asked for a certain main dish and I was greeted with a very blank stare. Usually I refuse to ask for a dish by it's number, I'd rather say "lemon duck" than "number 208". But on this occasion the woman didn't even understand "208". I wonder what language she spoke because she didn't seem to understand German or English. I've heard of this happening to a few people. To sum up: go once. You'll have a good dinner. Then make up your own mind whether or not to go back.

Posted by: jordigo at 9:55 pm on 26.Oct.2003Very good food & atmosphere ! Service was poor though (even for German standards) and put a damper on the overall dining experience.
Posted by: "Ken" at 11:54 am on 2.Mar.2004Despite the comedy name, this place is actually pretty good. Service was easily up to scratch, by any standard, and the food was good. The prices seem reasonable - about €14-15 for a main meal, and about a fiver for a starter. Yum is still my favourite Thai place in Munich (tho has a much smaller choice than here) but this place is closer, no reservation was required (for 8pm on a Saturday evening) and the food is almost as good - definitely worth a visit if you like Thai food.
Posted by: Jimbo at 3:06 pm on 28.Jun.2004I've been going to Kun-tuk for years. I find that this is definitely the best Thai restaurant in Munich! If one has any questions about this place, look under any gastronomie magazines and you will find that Kun-tuk is over-all one of the top 10 restaurants in all of Germany! As for the person (anonymous coward) who wrote about the "lemon duck/nu.208," sorry, that dish does'nt even exsist. Do us all a favor, get your facts and restaurants straight!!!
Posted by: "keana" at 4:24 pm on 8.Jan.2005I'll second the good reviews about this place - been several times for lunch, and the lunch specials menu isn't huge but what's there is very good. Never been in the evenings but heard you have to be lucky to get in without a reservation. PP
Posted by: "PiePiper" at 6:46 pm on 9.Jan.2005Really decent food. Had a fried prawn appetizer, a seafood noodle dish and a glass of blush wine. Would definitely go back for more.
Posted by: "Grace" at 10:38 am on 20.Jul.2005Went there last night, all the tables were reserved (always a good sign) so we sat at the bar. The food and service was excellent !! Will definitely be going back !!
Posted by: "NJDQ" at 12:30 pm on 13.Aug.2006I feel a bit mean writing about restaurants, because I am super critical. Unless I go somewhere obscenely expensive and draped in accolades, the chances are that I can cook better than anyone in the kitchen wherever I eat. Same goes for Kun Tuk. Not wonderfully authentic, but of course why would it be? Cuisine has to be adjusted to local preference. I won't therefore moan too much about the bizzare prescence of mixed vegetables in the green chicken curry, I'll only briefly mention that the Tom Yam soup is made from a stock cube, but there is one thing I simply MUST say..the rice is appalling. Yep. Rice. How can you go wrong with rice, I hear you cry. Easy. Here is how; instead of using a proper rice, like a basmati or jasmine, simply use utterly tasteless American long grain rice, perhaps even a par-boiled variety. I love rice. I eat lots of rice. I buy 10 kilo sacks of the stuff. Tasteless Uncle Bens shite however simply does not exist in my house though, because I am not an idiot. Sadly, somebody at Kunt uk clearly is.
