Khanittha is quite a nice restaurant. There are two branches in Munich - they are located in Haidhausen and Erding. Until around 2007 there was a third in Neuhausen, but that has since been renamed "Ruen Thong".

Correct spelling? I'm not sure. Khanittha, or Khanitthar? The script they use for their signs and menus is not easy to read. Definitely not Kanittha, Kanitthar, Khanitha, or Khanithar.
My German Teacher has been to the Kirchenstrases branch a few times and he recommends it highly.
Posted by: 3 Lions at 2:31 pm on 14.Oct.2003Khannitha EXCELLENT. I was hammered when I got there but still remember enough to know I want to go back. Prices are a little high. Had a mixed starter which was about 22EUR and then chicken with cashews which was arounf 12EUR. Decent portions and really atmospheric interior. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Posted by: "marka" at 10:08 am on 15.Oct.2003Khanittha is pretty good. I had a Penang curry there, and I would rate it highly on taste, but Penang should be HOT, and it was not, but if you served food in Germany with the Thai level of chilli in it, you would probably go out of business pretty quick...Luckily they have an excellent array of condiments for you to add more salty/sweet/hot flavours to your dish. Very authentic. I rant alot about the lack of edible asian fodder here in the land of pork, pork, cabbage and pork, but I can truly recommend this restaurant.
Posted by: "don_riina" at 4:10 pm on 15.Oct.2003Sounds good, have to try it out, I love Thai food. But, umm... is it exclusively Thai, or do they sweep the pacific-rim and cook kung pao (gong po) dishes as well? I'm leery of restaurants that try to cover too much territory...
Posted by: randy at 7:48 pm on 15.Oct.2003Randy, They are Thai. Maybe they have a few chinese looking dishes on the menu, I don't know, but the kitchen staff are all thai, as were the waiting staff I spoke to. BTW, don't knock Kung po! Done well it is great, though I understand your comment of course. I had a gung bao or something last week, which I assume was meant to be Kung Po, but was crap.
Posted by: "don_riina" at 11:38 am on 16.Oct.2003Its khanitthar.. i have the card in front of me i eat a lot of thai and rate this the best place in germany.
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 9:46 am on 4.Apr.2004I am trying to choose a romantic AND good Thai restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday on Friday. I was lured by the comments on this one, but there is no telephone or full address for the one on Kirchenstrasse... Can somebody help me? And, by the way, is it romantic? Thanks!
Posted by: "mora" at 3:26 pm on 8.Jun.2004YumYum is an excellent thai place (gets mixed reviews on toytown- but been excellent whenever I've been) and the decor is fab with great lighting and lots of orchids... dark and intimate despite being crowded at times. My German munchkin friends rate it highly too.
Posted by: "Greedy Guts" at 5:13 pm on 8.Jun.2004Had a great meal at the Kirchenstrasse resturant last night. Great food, flavours and atmosphere. P
Posted by: "Phil" at 12:00 pm on 19.Aug.2004I was in Khanittha 3 couple of days ago. Meals cost around 13 Euros but portion is biiig. I had tofu in red curry sauce and it was very good. Don't forget to tell that you want mild if you don't like very hot, because they serve it quite hot as default. Service was also good. All in all, very good place to eat tasty thai food.
Posted by: "Boro" at 4:26 pm on 10.Sep.2004Went here tonight - it was quite good and reasonably priced given the average local prices. My Thai in-laws thought it was quite good also.
Posted by: "Patently Obvious" at 9:22 pm on 12.Sep.2004The buffet lunch is pretty good value. It's around 8 euros for as much as you can eat. They usually have a couple of meat dishes and a vegetarian dish, plus rice and spring rolls etc. Oh, and try the chilies in oil. Very hot.
Posted by: "Finbarr Saunders" at 9:31 am on 13.Sep.2004khanittha is definitely the best thai restaurant in munich. i lived in thailand for 4 years and know something about thai food. this restaurant serves great thai cuisine. you can't beat the lunch buffet. the a la carte menue is somewhat expensive but worth it. don't miss it. highly recommended.
Posted by: "Jerry" at 10:56 am on 3.Nov.2004Went last night to one on Kirchner Str and food was excellent even though my tofu and vegetables didnt seem to contain any tofu! Lovely decor inside and the food was good. Prices can be quite high for some dishes though.
Posted by: "mellelisa" at 2:58 pm on 18.Nov.2004I went to the Khanittha (Kirchen Str) on Friday and the waitress was unpolite... (Disappointment!) Food was excellent though, but am going to check the Thorwalclsenstrasse next time.

Posted by: "gherman999" at 10:09 pm on 14.Aug.2005One and a half month ago while i was flying back from Bangkok Airport to Munich my partner and i happen to meet the owner Living in Munich of these two restaurants. He is from a region which is slightly outside of Chiang mai and was telling us that he had shipped 30 kg of sweet mangoes prior his flight with us. Infact, i was so shoked that he was also carrying some bags full of fresh veggie such as Lemongrass (harvest from his garden in Chiang Mai) After a short chat, he gave us his restaurant address and we tried just few days ago. We were there on Sunday evening 14th and it was almost full but we were lucky to have two seats for the evening. We had ordered their tom yum soups, Garlic and chilli fish (More thai chinese style), Panaeng curry with duck, thai fish cakes (appetiser) and their Thai spring roll. I am impressed with their simple but delicious freshly made fish cake and also spring roll. Their soup was nice too but i was disappointed with their Panaeng curry since it was more salty than those that i have tried in Thailand. However, their fish was nice too (extra spicy for me!) Yes, their service sucks. Imagine so many tables just one waitress !
Posted by: Andy101 at 4:17 pm on 16.Aug.2005yeah, if you're hungry go for the all you can eat lunch buffet, it's not fantastic, but Ok for european standards. Service still sucks!! for best Thai food & cocktails I still go to cozy, small Thailand Restaurant in Hesseloherstraße(behind Münchener freiheit) ph.:346830 P.S.: I am asian, I travel a lot to asia, I cook thai
Posted by: "ms" at 2:56 pm on 28.Feb.2006Khanittha 1 has a new owner, and the restaurant is now called "Ruen Thong". The menu is currently still the same though.
Posted by: "deco" at 4:58 pm on 28.Mar.2007I can only rave about the food and the service. A friend introduced me to this place in Neuhausen, the food is as good as it is in Thailand or California. Try something from the menu written in Thai. We never had an idea what we ate, but each and every dish was delicious. Enetering the restaurant I'm greeted like the lost son, so much for the previous comment that the service supposedly sucks. I have never visited any other subsidiaries. To put a time line to my comment: I discovered the restaurant in 2006 and have been a great fan ever since then. Go for!
Posted by: z-man99 at 1:19 pm on 25.Oct.2007Amending / correcting my previous post: The food was still very good (so are the fresh mangoes imported from Thailand). Either their was a change of ownership, the friendly lady certainly was not or no longer there. Ordering the Thai dishes was a hassle. In the end we paid over 30 Euros per person (had only SingHa beer) Now I’ll have to find a new favorite Thai eatery. Although I might just have a look if the lady that served us so well, so many times, is back.
