Kaimug is a fast-food Thai restaurant in the Fünf Höfe in the heart of Munich. Although it's labelled "fast food", this is top quality fast food. The cooks are all genuine Thai and the food is both fantastic and very reasonably priced. A great dish of red curry or noodles costs 7 to 8. This makes Kaimug perfect for some quality nosh during a break from shopping. There is a long seating area in the front window which is good for watching the world go past as you eat.
Vaguely interesting story behind the ownership: Kaimug is a creation of a German guy called Bernd and his Thai wife, Nisachon. They met whilst Bernd was on holiday in Thailand about a decade ago. On coming back to Germany they decided to utilise Nisachon's wizardry in the kitchen and they set up their own fast food stand. To start with this was just a simple snack-food caravan out in Föhring (on the North East outskirts of Munich). As Nisachon's reputation for cooking grew, and Bernd developed his management skills, they continually moved to bigger and better premises. In 2003 they moved to what must be one of the most desirable restaurant locations in Munich - the Fünf Höfe. Apparently they are not millionaires quite yet, but soon will be. Quite a success story.

Stick with the curries - the noodles seem to be more Chinese than Thai. A good value and open for dinner if you are looking for something cheap.

Posted by: "benpanter" at 11:11 am on 9.Apr.2005Tried it again recently after a long pause, and the curries are still great. Perfect place to have a quick and affordable eat.

Posted by: "lostmymojo" at 10:56 am on 22.Oct.2005I don't know if it's the policy or just luck, but this is one of the few restaurants I know that are (or at least seem) smoke-free. The curries and soups are excellent, though I agree that the noodle dishes are not the Thai noodle dishes I am used to.
Posted by: "Mummy" at 3:57 pm on 8.May.2006There is now also a branch of Kaimug in the Sendlinger Strasse. Looks pretty nice. Haven't eaten there though.
