A Tex-Mex bar/restaurant run by the same people who do Tijuana and Joe Penas. Kinda cool! Always popular.

Well it was the worst burger I've had in my life. Dry overcooked meat, no salad, hardly sauce, the fries skinny, almost black and soggy. The place tries to be a bit on the posh side, but I find nothing about it that would justify that, other than the waiters wear a white shirt and tie. Perhaps that's also why they don't serve Helles, only Weißbier or Pils. For some reason it has turned into a bit of an "in" place, so it typically gets quite crammed. The service was ok, apart from the fact that they cheated us with the bill (items on it we neither had nor ordered, but they nonetheless insisted we pay).
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 3:27 pm on 29.Nov.2005Went to Julep's last night. The steak was very good: tender and only a little past the "rare" I askd for. Everything else was so wrong, it was comical--we had a fun time making a joke out of it though. Wonder how much of our English comments the waiters overheard. Anyway, even with a party of 4 they couldn't properly serve us (we weren't there with 20 ppl or anything. - with two people who were 2m+, they gave us this tiny table crowded in the middle of everything - drinks took a long time to come... 15 minutes or something - their Mint Julep is more soda water and lemon, than it is bourbon. A real Julep should not have any water or lemon IMO - my girlfriend's Caipi was so lemony-sour she could not drink it. upon trading for a (normal) beck's, they instead brought her a beck's gold. at the end we noticed they charged for the horrible Caipi in addition to the beck's. - the Manhattan had a lot of ice melted in it, not strong enough (especially compared with a real bar like Masters Home on Frauenstrasse). - they brought one person in our party the wrong sauce with his steak - every time they brought something it was an attempt not to take further orders... upon dropping off food we had no chance to order another beer, so had nothing to drink with the food - we ordered some bread after the food, to soak up the great sauce. got 5 slices, 1cm thick, of baguette. come on, how expensive is BREAD!? - when i asked about blue cheese dressing for a friend's wings (it was on the menu...), "you only get blue cheese with the spicy sauce, it doesn't go with BBQ." OK, what country invented hot wings? I think it was mine... bring blue cheese dammit! it goes with every type of wing. Heard a similar review from another office mate when recounting my story. The staff is just incredibly rude, and too busy. So if you like good food and bad service, go there. But if you want decent service (or even normal Munich service), forget it.
Posted by: "one51" at 10:12 am on 7.Apr.2006Probably the worst food I've had in Munich. I came here for a small cocktail night with friends and we ordered the mixed appitizer platter for 3 people with a side salad and some fries. The lukewarm fries were soggy and limp. The 'satay' skewers were cold. The chicken wings were alright, but any decent kitchen should get chicken wings right. The nachos were stale, the sauces, (i.e. guacamole, sour cream sauce, bbq chilli sauce) that came with the plater were so-so. There was about 5 sticks of carrot & celery, and then garnish galore. Not too impressive for about 9 per person. And of course, when we politely expressed that the food was cold, they guy insisted that everything they made was fresh. I'm not sure what kind of cockamaymee argument that was supposed to be, but at least he did give us a free round of shots. Also, then the mint julep that my friend ordered wasn't a true mint julep, and it was super watered down, as well. Embarassing, actually. I guess this is a good place if you just want to have a couple beers and then head off to eat somewhere proper.

Posted by: "AgentLloyd" at 4:46 pm on 13.Feb.2007This place is terrible. The "food" i got was dry, overcooked and tasted like rubber. They ran out of coctail glasses (wtf?) and i was served a zombie in a coffee cup.
Posted by: Mr.Mosh at 10:23 am on 10.Apr.2007As a big fan of Juleps in Berlin, my high hopes have been consistently disappointed at Juleps in Haidhausen. I've been there maybe 3 or 4 times over the last few years, and this most recent time will be my last. They didn't have steak knives to serve with the rubbery steak, they ran out of mint on a Sunday (no mint juleps at Juleps??!!), and to add insult to injury, they have now implemented a 'smoking club' policy to get around the smoking ban (smoking is allowed at the 'bar', not the restaurant, but the two are basically one in the same). This restaurant is anything but 'American'. The only redeeming quality is the drinks (the barkeep is very good), that is of course unless they run out of key ingredients!
