smokefree jazz on Valentine's Day here this year -- actually all their concerts are now smokefree. In cooperation with belair münchen.

Finally smoke free! Well done Gen ... you´re doing a great job promoting such things! :-D

we went to listen to jazz at the Unterfahrt on Friday... it was good jazz but the place was full of smoke before the show... it is non smoking only during the performance... so you will still get your daily allowance of second hand smoke...

hmm. will have to work on that -- maybe they'd open all the doors and air the place out just before a concert or something?

Went to Unterfahrt last night. The group was excellent - Harald Ruschenbaum Jazz Orchestra. Great music and they were tight. Lots of brass: 5 sax, 4 trombones, 3 trumpets, 1 flugelhorn. Plus piano, guitar, drums and bass. And, no one was smoking before the show, none during the interval. No one lit up until the band was done, and then it was a couple of the musicians.

Both times I went I was not impressed. First of all, both bands that I saw resembled elevator music, rather than fun jazz that one would want to hear at a bar. Second of all, apparantly the rule at this "bar" is that you are not supposed to speak while the band is playing. Did I step into a classical concert? Even though they call it a jazz bar, everyone is quiet the entire time until intermission where it breaks into a low whisper. Booooring.... snoooozzzeee. I guess if your looking for that kind of thing. The crowd are the mid-forties type, men with long hair, glasses etc. My friend and I were way over dressed as everyone was in jeans. If anyone has any suggestions on a place that is a little more hip, fun and bar type jazz that would be great. Thanks

I've been there on the advices of some guiding books while visiting Munich a couple of weeks ago; well, nothing worth being said on it. It's just commonplace! I'd almost say it was borring, really desappointing! By the way Angela, I think we had probably met that "famous" night you and your friend have been bothered by some long hair mid-forty glasses-wearing guy (the girl from France, if you do remember!). Hope you found your way back home :) If you really wanna have good fun and happen to be towards Paris, don't miss the "new morning" and "le caveau de la huchette" ;) caveaudelahuchette.fr/1514/25702.html

on a good night the place rocks! Yes, it's a cold basement i.e. when there is a great atmosphere, either monday big band nights, or when a kickass band is touring from outta town, its the place to be, otherwise you can feel the chill

Visited here June 08 to see 'Bobbycar' and found it very agreeable - guess you can't please all the people all the time judging by the comments above. We'd booked the table beforehand on line and were greeted courteously. There is table service for both drinks and food. Arriving at 8.30 it was worryingly empty, though full by the 9pm kick-off. It wasn't a crush by any means and not the sweaty hell-hole I'd feared it might be. The audience was a mix of all ages and genders the night we visited. Would certainly visit again. The curry restaurant Surbahar is a 5 minute would along the road.
