Hong Kong Bar - Kapuzinerstr. 39, 80469 Munich, Germany

This bar in the Glockenbachviertel is a bit out of the way just to enjoy the happy hour (corner of Geyerstr & Kapuzinerstr), but it's worth spending an evening at. If you're coming with the U-Bahn on a cold night, you're probably best off taking the bus 58 from Goetheplatz. In summer, it'd be a good place for dinner and drinks after a swim at the nearby Schyrenbad.

Hong Kong Bar - Munich

The Hong Kong Bar is a successful combination of bar, restaurant and evening lounge. For those not seated around the very large bar, the left corner contains couches while the right side has around 8 tables, capable of seating 8-10 people. A high ceiling, dimmed lighting and a few decoration pieces provide a pleasant ambience and although on my visit it was surprisingly loud, conversation is easily held.

Hong Kong Bar - Munich

The menu contains a large selection of drinks priced around €7.50-8.00, with a €4.90 happy hour until 8pm. Not all the choices have the same alcohol content, but the old favourite Zombie packed plenty. If you like a very spicy Bloody Mary, try one here. Soups and Entrees set you back around €5-6, mains between €8 and €15. A number of vegetarian choices are available, while those watching their fitness have seven salads to chose from. Dishes which are supposed to be spicy are marked and this is one restaurant where the advice is warranted. There is plenty of variety in the curiously named meals, which in general are good value for money, without being sensational.

I didn't like this place. Cocktails were fine, but the food was like takeout: rather generic.

Used to live above this bar. Went in once and never went back. My flatmate loved the place, but then again he was a twat.

Was with a mixed group of Americans and Germans and we all couldn't believe this place. Food and service were terrible.

This has become one of my favorite Restaurants and bar in Munich. First of all, as soon as you enter, you feel the difference between this and many other locales in Munich: The colors are warm and the atmosphere is inviting. PLUS the staff is genuinely friendly. They remember my name and always smile and shake my hand. They will always try to accommodate you no matter how crowded it is. Then you have 3 choices: Sit at the bar and sip your cocktail if you're alone or waiting for someone or just interested in looking around. The lounge area with very comfortable and soft leather chairs (be careful, you may fall asleep) where you can have a very relaxing and romantic conversation, order cocktails and/or dinner. Or you can move later to the dining area...or just go straight there if you're not in the mood for lounging. The food is excellent. Yes, it's not cheap, but not exensive either. I strongly recommend the "Phuket Firepot" which is now my new favorite dish. It's on the specials menu at the moment, but if you ask for it even after it's off the menu, they will grant your request and probably know who recommended it :). It is now referred to as "the usual" when I'm there. I had my birthday dinner there and the manager asked me how it went 2 weeks later! I love this place, it's czy and warm and I would simply recommend it for anyone to try. It's a great place for a nice romantic date. You can be close and comfortable on the lounge couches, sit at the bar (not recommended for a date) or dine the regular way at the tables. Either way, if you're the type of person who likes something intimate and nice, you'll love it!

A hidden gem, one of my favorite restaurants in munich. Very warm, inviting and comfortable colors. Great deco Lounge area for VERY comfortable conversation, cocktails and/or dinner with very comfortable leather sofas Dining area as well PLUS..the staff is so nice, you'll feel like you've left Germany, and you'll definitely go back Recommendation: Try the Phuket Firepot (exotic seafood dish with curry, coconut milk and spicy...a bit hot!)

Brilliant place. The posts above that complained about the service obviously haven't lived in Germany as the service sux most places. However, a german friend from art school brought me to Hong Kong Bar and it's been a favorite ever since. I only lived a few blocks away and it became a regular for my entire 5 years + in Munich. There is chicken curry dish with cashew nuts that is to die for at this place... and the cocktails are some of the best in munich. Properly made, mixed and garnished. The design and decor are of mixed asian concept but create a cool atmosphere reminicent of Blade Runner or something. Anyway, loved it, loved it, loved it. Recommended if you like asian cuisine and good cocktails.
