Ho Guom is, hands down, one of THE best restaurants in Munich, at any price and of any category. I can not believe that it has yet to be reviewed and recommended on Toytown.
As someone who loves to go out and eat and have done so in many places around the world, Ho Guom is a true and completely unexpected gem of an eatery. Food quality is truly astounding: taste, freshness and portion sizes are all impeccable. The service is personable, original and sort of endearingly charming. And polite, of course.
Not sure whether it is the best dating place, since the locale perhaps lacks the fuzzy, hushy, pastely feel of a "classic" dating haunt. Expect to hear Barry White - not Vivaldi. But if you simply need gobsmackingly good food, served with a genuine smile, then this is the be all and end all of Munich Southeast Asian cuisine. Price level: Three-course meal for two, with beer/soft drinks: 40-50 Euros.
Just DO IT. You won't regret it.

I beg to differ with your opinion I am afraid. I got such bad food poisoning after eating a duck dish there in December 2004, I was violently ill for 5 days. I wouldn't go there again EVER.
Posted by: Reen at 11:36 pm on 27.May.2007Hey Reen, Ouch. That doesn't sound good. I hope you let them know? Perhaps it lead to them cleaning up their act and become a better restaurant in the 2-3 years since?
Posted by: ktandper at 6:59 pm on 28.May.2007Perhaps. I still shudder when I walk past there. You have no idea how bad it was. I will spare you the details :o) At least you had a good experience there.
Posted by: Reen at 8:45 pm on 29.May.2007My husband and I and our 2 kids had dinner at Ho Guom the other week. Great food, fresh ingredients, well presented and I can highly recommend the lamb dish....so good I can't wait to go there for dinner tonight to have it again. The service was a little on the slow side but very polite ... so thumbs up for Ho Guom, totally agree with the review from ktandper may 07.
Posted by: clayton at 3:30 pm on 24.Jul.2009A group of us went there after the latest squash tournament, chiefly because it was late and it was the nearest place. OK It does look a little shabby inside and noone else was there (it was gone 10.30) but the service was good and freindly (especially as they were due to close at 11.30) and everybody really enjoyed their chosen dishes. I will be going back and will try one of the dishes served on a skillet (hot plate) which looked delicious.
