After my disaster at Nomiya, Haguruma was heaven. I was taken there by a couple of Japanese guys from my German course. If the Japanese say it's good, then thats a pretty good recomendation.... & man, was i not disappointed!
It is a fairly new little restaurant. With seating for about 20-25, it is cosy, relaxed and friendly. The hostess is an ever smiling, ever cheery Japanese lady. If you are looking for White linen cloths & waiters in regimented uniforms, then your at the wrong place. As my colleagues stated, While this is not the best Japanese restaurant in Munich, it is best for value for money & excellent authentic Japanese food.
Basically, they have everything. What did we have... well, I can't give you the proper names, but I will try and describe
Japanese fried chicken, Succulent bellied pork (Their version of Schweinebraten) Mixed Tempura seafood and veggies, Spring Rolls (for our Chinese guest) Skewered Chicken & spring onions, Sushi Roles & Nigiri. White fish with spicy beans (Ain't got a scooby what that was.. bloody tasty though!)
Washed down with some Kirin & Asahi beer I was full and contented..... But we were not finished... My colleagues were going to finish with some noodles. Not wanting to offend, I accepted as well. The noodles duly arrived in a soup with beansprouts & beef. Bearing in mind that I a was already full, I had to stop myself from licking the bowl when I was finished, it was that good!
The bill for 7 people came to €217......I can't wait to go back !

Posted by: planetmoni at 11:23 am on 29.Jun.2006If you want to approximate an authentic Japanese experience, this is the place to go. They've got it right down to yelling EERASHAIMASAEE! as you walk in the door and giving you hot towels with a HAI DOZO! Maybe its stupid, but for me this stuff is as important as the food, which is also very good. The plain tofu starter (natur sojabohnen something with ingwer and lauch) and the soba soup with veggies (buchweiz nudeln mit ente und gemuse, excuse the poor german) are excellent.
Posted by: "Nick" at 3:05 pm on 1.Aug.2006Agree with above posts, quality very good, service very friendly in a wacky sort of way - somewhat reminiscent of the two sushi chefs in kill Bill 2... Do not expect a cheap meal though. We were three and with 1,5 bottles of cold sake, sushi, sashimi, etc. it was well over 150.
Posted by: "Tim" at 1:38 pm on 2.Sep.2006I am going there tonight for the second time and I am looking forward to it. It was great last time, and I sure believe it'll be today.
Posted by: "Daniel" at 4:42 pm on 6.Sep.2006I was there at the weekend and it was a nightmare. The chicken was served raw and with skin...looks more Chinese than Japanese. Never again.

Posted by: "Johann Lang" at 10:15 am on 5.Mar.2007Haguruma hasn't changed its appearance too much from the days of Sushi Zen; the sushi poster has gone from the walls and has been replaced by some handwritten menus and signs, which gives it a slightly homely feel, but this could be improved with more of them. I read that Ladies' Day was on Wednesdays (it says on one of their posters), and we happened to be there on a Wednesday, however it's only lunchtime where the free green tea and ice cream is served. So not really a Ladies' Day after all, more like Ladies' Lunch :) We were served a free appetiser and then proceeded to eat starters and main dishes, but no dessert. Overall the food tasted nice, but nothing special. It reminded me of home cooking, i.e. filling but a bit, well, bland. The service was nice and I think that the lady who owns the place brought a lot of energy into the place. For the menu on offer, I prefer going to Shoya. Haguruma was just too expensive for the quality that was served. I'd go back if friends arrange something, but I wouldn't initiate it.
