Favorit Bar - Damenstiftstr. 12, 80331 Munich, Germany
If you're tired of all those Munich bars which are just sooo chic, chic, chic, then Favorit is definitely your antidote. A more run-down and unassuming bar in Munich 80331 you will not find. Favorit is a shop front location in the very center of the city, not far from Munich's main shopping mile - Kaufingerstrasse. The premises look as if they haven't even been renovated, or even repainted, since WWII. The bar's approach to interior decor can only be described as minimalist. There is not a single picture or mirror on the walls, no potted plants, no designer lamps, no candles, no curtains, no nuffink. Just dirty smokey cream coloured walls which are full of holes and damp rot. Yet somehow Favorit manages to pass all this off as it's charm.

Favorit is almost always full and was recently listed as one of the top 50 bars in Munich by the city magazine Prinz. So they're doing something right.
They don't have any chairs or bar stools. Instead the floorspace at one end is formed in such a way that you can sit on different levels. This bar-scaping is the only funky thing about the design - but you get over it pretty quick. There's not much space to sit, mind. In fact, you'll most likely be standing the whole evening - clutching your bottled beer. You weren't expecting cocktails I hope? If so, forget it. The barstaff might mix you a long drink if you ask nicely.

In the middle of the room is a small DJ booth with two decks. The music can be anything from house, through garage to break beats to techno, or even "experimental", whatever that is.
The address is halfway along Damenstiftstrasse. Make sure you keep your eyes open. The only way Favorit bar announces it's presence is by way of a tiny computer printed label in the window saying "Favorit".

this really is a fascinating bar. It is tiny and looks a bit f**ked up but very cosy. Ppl are really friendly and laid back. You actually have place to sit if you're there early enough but it looks more like a students home. PPl are sitting very close and there are no tables. Definitely a good place to go for a after work drink if you just wanna chill. EB is right, u really have to watch out for that place, although I pass by there quite often, I never realized there was a bar.

Posted by: "stritzi" at 1:12 pm on 12.Nov.2005Best bar ever - the way to get round the bouncer is to pat her on the head twice - a little known trick but will work (if you've got the bottle, that is) ; ) Saturdays are ace! Krazel
