Actually, this restaurant does still exist, but under a different name: El Gordo Loco
Mariannenstrasse 3
Munich Lehel
"El Pollo Loco" means "the crazy chicken" in Spanish!
Posted by: "MeBu" at 2:50 pm on 7.Mar.2005Lol El pollo loco is a mexican restaurant, their principal food is roasted chicken and they give you tortillas for make tacos, etc etc..is delicious
Posted by: "aska" at 8:02 pm on 13.Apr.2005Ah lord... Now all we need is a Taco Bell. Is this the same as the El Pollo Loco from the states? Chicken, tortillas, salsa and a do-it-yourself sorta thing?
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 1:46 pm on 22.Apr.2005OK, we were curious (and had a coupon), so we tried it out..... The place is like an upscale bar with seating for about 25 people. Not real trendy, decent music though. The cocktails were great and good size. The food is hit and miss....The nachos were store-bought with store-bought salsa, the fajitas were pretty average, but the chicken burrito was awesome (great taste, great presentation).
Posted by: "Boilermaker94" at 3:57 pm on 25.Apr.2005El Pollo Loco went out of business. The owner spent his money every night at clubs instead of for rent. The cook's wife has reopened the restaurant under the name El Gordo Loco. Same cook, new bartender. Now, freshly made chips (no more store bought). It is open for business, but they are waiting until after Oktoberfest for the grand re-opening.
Posted by: "AnthonyInEurope" at 10:17 am on 22.Sep.2005I think that the last comment is not really fair. Because the cook (without his wife) went to the clubs with his former boss every night!!!!! And that there was some "store bought" food, was always the responibility of the cook.!!!!
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 9:47 am on 22.Oct.2005Yes, it may have been a bit unfair. I don't have anything personal against Volcan; this is simply what Martin (the cook) said. The story goes even longer when you include the part about Volcan's previous partner being a crook who left him deep in debt. Perhaps I should have started the above comment with "according to the cook"... As far as store bought food: The only things store bought were chips and frozen stuff for deep frying. (ok, and tortillas and hamburger buns, well, of course the meat and vegies came from the store too). But now the chips are not store bought. Someone claimed that the salsa was store bought, but no, he cooks his salsa which makes it seem to be store bought. I have suggested that he make it differently in the future. I cannot eat there because I am highly allergic to MSG which ends up in most of his food, like in many other restaurants.
