El Gordo Loco - Mariannenstr. 3, 80538 Munich, Germany
Mariannenstrasse 3
Munich Lehel
U-Bahn U4/5 Lehel
Tel.: 089 21268355
Until September 2005 this location was known as El Pollo Loco.
The chef of the restaurant is Mexican and owns this place together with his German wife. They are both very friendly and their pico de gallo is great compared to so many other supposedly Mexican places in Munich. Well, you know there are enough places where the chef has never even heard of pico de gallo. Anyway, definitely worth a try. If you are going on the weekend it's probably best to make a reservation since the place is not too big. It's across the street from "nage & sauge"
Posted by: "johnny_who?" at 4:46 pm on 22.Dec.2005Had the hot-sizzlin' fajitas last night -- scrumptious! The gambas starter was fantastic: prepared on a hot platter right before our eyes. Happy hour from 5-8. Each cocktail 4,50. Excellent bar staff & service. Reserve during the week too. Even on Wed. at 7 p.m., the place is full. The place seats max 40 people (including a few spots at the bar). You can also walk from Isartor S-bahn stop (tram heads up towards Maximillianplatz). The treck from Lehel is just as long.
Posted by: "Ella Star" at 12:03 pm on 29.Dec.2005I thought the chips and salsa were too expensive at 4.50! The fajitas were ok, and in general, all the food was good, but not great. The main dishes seemed fair in price, but the appetizers and drinks seemed a little steep for what you get. In order to be fair though, this is coming from a person who has lived in Texas and gotten lots of good Mexican. I haven't been to other places in Munich, so I don't have anything to compare it to. It could be that this place is the best you can get, and I just don't know it yet.

Posted by: "Karina" at 7:50 pm on 22.May.2006Dinner with friends and it was a lovely evening. My wife and I grew up in Sourthern California and have been searching for a good Mexican restaurant. We've finally found one. Our first test is always a margarita. El Gordo Loco does a good margarita -- although Happy Hour is key, otherwise the price is just too steep for the three sips you get. None the less, good margaritas. Dinner was also quite good. As with much of Europe the portions are smaller than Americans will be accustomed to, but frankly our expectations are too "large". Service was friendly, although quite slow. If you are looking for a Mexican fix in the middle of Munich, El Gordo Loco is a solid choice.
