Dukatz - Salvatorplatz 1, 80333 Munich, Germany
Despite rising out of Salvatorplatz like a large museum, Dukatz isn't easy to find. It took me almost two years to discover it, but perhaps if I had worked in the legal or banking profession I would have found it more quickly.

Dukatz is a large, long, well-lit room on two levels, and is usually full of the hubbub of multiple conversations and endless gossip. The service can be slow at the tables, especially after work when it starts to get busy with professionals relaxing and it's quite funny to see them being enticed into talking to the clearly less well-off but more attractive girls who crowd the bar looking for a rich uncle. The food is far from ordinary; it’s rare to see menus that include tripe or cold herring salad, but you’ll find both here.

The best description I've heard is that Dukatz is Lenbach without the design or detail, which is a good way to sum up this ambitious café/restaurant. And that lack of detailed thought is shown in the way they display the huge LED artwork of Guggenheim-exhibited artist Jenny Holzer, which just looks like it was stuck on at the last minute.

My favorite place in Munich. Excellent food, great service, reasonable prices for this kind of quality (and for Munich).
