Der Katzlmacher used to be located in Maxvorstadt (see reviews). In mid-2006 they moved to the premises previously occupied by Rossi. Although the place has a German name, the cuisine is Italian. The business lunch is quite pricey at €25.

This restaurant used to be in Maxvorstadt and is one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to. If it hasn't slipped up since moving to the city centre I am sure it still is one of the best.
Posted by: Uncle Jamal at 2:38 pm on 12.Jun.2007I was yesterday with some friends in Katzlmacher. Food and wines taste wonderful, exactly like in Italy. Belive me, I can tell it, because I'm Italian. The waiter Amedeo looks like Jean Reno (Film:Leon) and is top.

The service was friendly and quick, food was top notch & atmosphere was warm & inviting. Can't wait till we go back.

Unlike some places where solo diners might be seated in a less-than-ideal spot, I was given a prime table. Waiters were attentive but not annoying. Good bread, a tasty amuse-bouche, a nice selection of wines. I can highly recommend the octopus "carpaccio".

The service was wonderful, but the decor was mismatched, the food uninspired (and lukewarm!) and it was half empty on a Saturday night. Maybe if you'd never been to the old Katzlmacher you wouldn't notice the difference... but what a shame.
