Posted by: "Musikus" at 8:37 pm on 14.May.2004I visited this restaurant, which is owned by the same people who do Cafe Ignaz. They have a similar (identical?) menu, and both offer perks, such as a free dessert and/or appetizer. At Das Gollier, there is a buffet with soup, salad and dessert that comes with the purchase of any meal. The style of the architecture and atmosphere of the two cafes is a bit different... Ignaz is more intimate, light, and much smaller, while Gollier is in a lovely and well-maintained Altbau building. The ceilings are high, the tables large, and as a customer you have a lot of space. My only gripe is that, although the food is good, and the prices are pretty cheap compared to most places in Munich, both cafes seem to try to offer too much selection. I think they would do better to concentrate on the dishes they do best, rather than trying to cover so many bases. In the end, I think they compromise on the little details that make good food really outstanding food. And that is perhaps the reason why they compensate with quantity. Neither of these places is gourmet or fancy... but the atmosphere is nice, the service very friendly and the quality of the ingredients high. I doubt you will leave hungry, with the choices and ´freebies´ they have available. I wouldn't recommend one over the other. It's a matter of location and atmosphere. The food is quite the same.

Posted by: "Anonymous" at 9:50 pm on 14.Nov.2004Why has Das Gollier closed? And is it permanent? I spent New Year in Munich and was so disappointed to discover it is no more - however there were no signs up saying that it has closed - I had to ask in a nearby shop.
Posted by: "Vicky" at 4:31 pm on 10.Jan.2005Cafe Ignaz is still open, the "Gollier" is permanently closed. Both had the same owner who decided for whatever reason to get rid of one restaurant. Apparently the turnover wasn't as well as expected. However, the vegetarian "Vegelangelo" in M-Schwabing, Türkenstr. 76, is a pretty well substitute concerning food quality although not as inexpensive as the "Gollier" had been.
