Cord - Sonnenstrasse 18, 80331 Munich, Germany
Cord opened in March 2004. It's a very relaxed bar, but still stylish. Full of well dressed students. But turn up in your fave 7-year old t-shirt and torn jeans and nobody will care. Music genre is different each night of the week and caters to most tastes. They usually have a DJ in to spin the vinyl. Reasonably priced drinks. And best of all - an excellent 1st floor location overlooking Sonnenstrasse.

Open daily 8pm - 2am, til 3am Friday and Saturday. Closed Sundays.
I went to Cord last Friday with a few friends, and to be honest it didn't live up the expectations I'd formed after reading Bob's review. Although it's in a very nice location and has a great interior, I felt that the atmosphere was lacking something. Could have been down to the music, which I thought was too heavy/loud and would have been more appropriate in a bar/club like Atomic Café. Also, something that Bob didn't mention in his review is that there is an entry fee. I don't know what time they start charging though - half of our group went in right after they opened at 8pm, and didn't have to pay. The rest turned up between 9.30 and 10pm and were charged. In summary: Plus: - Good location. - Very nice interior & furnishing. - Service very friendly & prompt. - Excellent cocktails (I had a Gimlet and a Watermelonman). Minus: - Expensive beer (EUR 2,90 for 0,3l Weißbier). - Music too loud/inappropriate. - Entry fee.
Posted by: "Finbarr Saunders" at 2:36 pm on 29.Mar.2004have to agree with mr. sanders. saw no reason why i paid a cover charge either and got there at 10.15 p.m. and yeah, the watermelon was deelicious. great location. but.... toilets suck! i had to squeeze in sideways to get in the stall to sit. very claustrophic indeed.
Posted by: "Ella" at 10:08 pm on 29.Mar.2004Agreed. Some nights it's smokier than Nockherberg '99. They need to sort out their air circulation. And they should put reliably decent music on too. Last Wednesday was good (soulful house bordering onto melodic trance). But Saturday was awful. Revamped 80's stuff like the Thompson Twins and goodness knows what else.

Posted by: "Anonymous" at 10:40 am on 10.Apr.2004Went to cord last night for the second time. I really like the place, and both nights I have been they were playing really nice music. Stefan from Cinesoundz(www.cinesoundz.com) was on the decks last night playing bossa nova and various soundtrack bits, but this was a special one-off night. I've been wanting to know what they have on, but they don't seem to have a website and I haven't seen them listed much. I picked up the flyers last night. Here's the lowdown.... Wednesdays: Duck and Cover w/ DJ O & DJ I (no description on the flyer but from the guests they had on June 9 [from Play records and Compost] I would imagine electronic dance, but who knows really) Thursdays: NO WHERE NOW HERE: "It's all about the music, the stuff we really want to play, whether it's dance, rock, hip hop, pop or...." Fridays: Kasino: RockPop w/ DJ Weyssi Saturdays: Tweed: w/ DJ Cloat (flyer gives a list of nonsense, but I think that Cloat plays 60's beatpop, so I would imagine this night to be there and beyond) OK, I realise that is not exactly informative, but it's better than naught, and it's a really cool bar/club, so check it out, and tell us how some of these weeklies are.
Posted by: "pao" at 10:49 am on 7.Jul.2004Have been a couple of times and enjoyed it - good music, nice vibe etc.. but turned up on a Saturday night a couple of weeks back with two friends and the woman on the door (as uncharming as always) looked at us through the glass, opened the door and said "Was wollten sie?" which frankly I'd thought would have been obvious. She said it was too busy (which we saw from outside it clearly wasn't) and promptly slammed the door in our face. As three people then promptly walked out the door we again asked to come in, and she just laughed. Bitch. So won't be going back. I mean, it's not as if it's P1 for gawd's sake - it's a studenty, t-shirt and jeans place. So nice to see that she made a couple of guys in jeans and t-shirts so welcome. Door policies in Munich are sometimes bewildering. But if some stroppy cow gets her Saturday night kicks from turning down eager punters, then so be it. But I'll head somewhere else in future.
