Club do Vinho - Munich

The Club do Vinho ("The Wine Club") is a Portuguese restaurant which opened up in the Glockenbachviertel on 1st March 2006. It is owned and run by a Portuguese lady Ana Maria Pires, who wants to inject Munich culture with the flavours of Portugese cuisine and wines.

Typical Portuguese meals are on the menu, such as bacalha~o, several types of fish, steak, Portuguese desserts, Portugese wines (such as vinho verde - "green wine") and of course, Portugese-style coffee.

The restaurant is fairly small with around 5 or 6 tables, but the atmosphere was very relaxed and pleasant, and the interior very stylish.

Make sure you book in advance, as this is quite a popular place. I ordered the grilled salmon with potatoes and veg, the vinho verde, and for dessert something called 'molotov' which was baked whipped egg and sugar with a caramel sauce (sort of like creme caramel but with a different, fluffier tecture). Very tasty. Prices were around EUR10-18 for a main course iirc.

A friend and I dined here last night. Excellent! We are both vegetarian, and Ana and her chef, Ernesto, prepared a special vegetarian meal for us with wine pairings. Intimate atmosphere, great food and wine, reasonable prices, friendly and personable owner and chef. What more can I say.
