Sophie Scholl and Christoph Probst were executed in Stadelheim on 22nd February 1943. They were Munich students and members of the White Rose movement against the Nazis. The square at Universität, where Sophie was arrested, is today called Geschwister-Scholl-Platz after her and her brother Hans. The address of the student residences, Studentenstadt, is named Christoph-Probst-Strasse. You've seen the recent German films Napola and Der Untergang. Now comes movie Sophie Scholl - The Final Days. IMDB describes this simply as, "A very very good film". The role of Sophie is played by Julia Jentsch. She was awarded the "best lead actress" prize at the Berlinale last week. Previews are being shown Wednesday night at Cinemaxx and Kinos Münchener Freiheit. The full release starts Thursday 24.Feb.2005.

went to see this last night...it was mega! would deffo recommend it. Julie Jentsch is great as Sophie, even made me shed a secret tear or two.
most of it has been filmed in Munich, so you'll probably recognise a few places. |
