The cHic bar opened in August 2004. I walked past the week it opened and looked in. Quickly decided it was nothing worth writing about so didn't even submit a review to TT. But then Ganz München started going completely crazy about it with their (non-impartial, paid-for)(see correction below) review. So I thought I'd put up a quick entry here as some kind of counterweight. ...

cHic - bar, dining, lounge - Munich

cHic is really nothing that special. Sure, it's got kinda funky lighting. But that's about all. It's located in possibly the most densely populated bar & cafe area in Munich, i.e. Leopoldstrasse at Münchener Freiheit. This means it'll always be full whatever happens. They serve a very mixed menu which includes sushi, salads, and various other stuff. If you pay a visit, and you discover what the secret attraction is, please write back.

The ganz-muenchen.de arcticle about cHic was not paid for. Who thinks it was? And why? NEVER EVER has ganz-muenchen.de made any paid-for article on a new restaurant. That is ganz-muenchen.de company policy: to ensure a neutrality, new restaurants or bars that are less than 3 month of age will always get an article for free - IF we decide to write about them. If not, they will not be mentioned, we save our time and the time of our readers.. It is simple: instead of critizising a place we just keep them off our pages, if we don't like a place or we think it is not worth writing obout it. As ganz-muenchen.de works close to the Leopoldstrasse we often see places coming and going and, and having now eaten there several times without being disapointed. We love that place because the food is great and kitchen chief Charles is such a great cook. Charles is often in the restaurant, talking to guests, is mingeling with the people, shows a strong presence which is really unusual in the munich gastro scene. Maybe that is the secret....

Ooops. Sorry! I just assumed. Guess I assumed wrong. I know I'm not the only one though. Lots of people think the bar & restaurant articles on the Ganz Muenchen frontpage are 'paid placement'. It's good to hear that they're not!

You might want to slightly alter the review there Bob...did somebody say libel??

As Toytown's official attorney, I should point out that Bob has already publicly apologised for his error. And if you disagree with me, I'll just have to drive round your gaff in my Aston Martin and kick your head in. And then shag your girlfriend.

The review still stands though - I would contest that it should be changed. What kind of Aston do you have? I'm a DB9 man myself. Oh, and as for kicking my head in? Don't touch what you can't afford, son.

When i was there, the food tasted microwave. We complained with the waitress, and she was nice with us, and offered extra dessert and grappa. Typical Schwabinger clientele (pseudochics, normal people, strangers - like me -, families, drunken...)

I went here for the first time last night. I was always really intrigued by the menus they put outside since the food sounded really good. It was not. I order Thai coconut soup with chicken in it and I couldn't finish it. The portions and presentation was nice, but the soup has puddles of oil in it and it did not tast good. The spring roles were ok but they are not like spring roles I've ever seen. More like zucchini wraps.

after never being able to make the business work they finally closed. i don't think this was difficult to foresee. for one there was the lack of quality food, and secondly they apparently never managed to attract the typical average-pseudo-chic Schwabinger clientele like, for example, the adjacent "News Café" does.
