Chang Noi - Munich

I read a recomendation of Chang Noi in Marcelinos. As it's just next door I thought I should give it a try. I had high expectations, when reading the menue, they have been awarded best asian restaurant 2002 in southern germany by a food magazine. As Thai I must admit, I was very disappointed. The service was very friendly (of course what do you expect from Thais?) but the food already prepared to western-german standards. I am an expert in LAB GAI, chicken salad served with salad leaves, preferably iceberg lettuce. A shock for my taste buds, lack of lime and coriander, to much peanut, the salad leaves merely decoration.

TOM YAM GUNG, soo poor, you may call it "Fishbrühe mit Riesengarnelen". We tried two Mittagsmenue. BEEF WITH GREEN CURRY, CHICKEN WITH VEGETABLES, where all those spices? I neither tasted any thai Basilikum nor coriander or fish sauce. My son would say they still need to learn to cook properly!

Though I'm living abroad since more than 20 years I still know how to cook Thai, and I have not adapted to western taste buds, I know good european food, but this was definitely not original Thai.

Yep, welcome to Germany...I've yet to have a good lab gai in this country, and I'd always thought it was a hard dish to mess up. I've been told Ruen Thai is the best in town, have not yet had a chance to try it though.

I had my best larb gai at THAILAND Restaurant-ph.:346830 in Hesseloherstasse, U-Bahn Münchener Freiheit, it's the oldest Thai restaurant in Munich, besides they also serve larb Ped (Duck) with loads of salad, and you can always ask for additional, Papaya Salad, great Yam Nue and great Mai Tai

I am Thai but I never had Thai food at the restaurant here cz all I heard they tasted not good better to cook by self so I am afraid to try. But I have heard that Ruen Thai is good but never tried though.

Wasn't impressed, the portions were pretty small and expensive. Rüen Thai is still my number one!

just went there last tuesday, well it's a really nice restaurant, high ceiling, red walls, colonial style, but there was a lack of friendliness in the service....I had Nua Pad prig, beef with vegetables for 12.90€, the portion was MINI, unless you eat plenty of rice you are supposed to walk home hungry! I also dont consider 0.2l of bianca di Custoza as reasonable prized. Definitely prefer to go to Thailand in Hesseloherstrasse.

I think this place has had a bad rap. Went there after a few pints in the Muddy boot. The service was good. But I told the waitress I wanted it cooled Thai, not German, and after verifying I really wanted proper food, I was well pleased with what I got. We were 5 people and everybody was happy. And it is really convenient to the Muddy boot.

I was at that Restaurant by accident last evening and enjoyed my meal very much. When I choose my meal and asked about the spice-level, the service gave me the choice between German-spicy or Thai-spicy. I took the starter Thai-Spicy and it was really rocket-hot. I checked their Webpage because I couldn´t remember the name of my meal: Yum Wunsen, glass noodles with shrimp as a starter and Pad Ki Mau, rice noodles with chicken and chili as the main meal. I would have taken some vegetarian food, but wanted glass noodles and rice noodles. Both meals were prepared very well and did taste very good. This is my recommendation if somebody wants to go to a Thai Restaurant in Munich.
