Went here yesterday for a snack and coffee. The food was not bad but the service was horrendous. It was 3PM on a busy and sunny Saturday in the city. They have about 20 (or more) tables outside on the Platz, and one waitress dealing with all of them! Have to give her some credit, she did a good job under the circumstances, but every time we asked her for something, she grimaced with the look of "Please! Don't order anything! Don't make me have to go into that kitchen again!". Later on, she disappeared and was replaced by 2 guys. We asked to pay, got the old "yes yes", waited 10 minutes, asked again, waited another 10 minutes, asked again, waited another 10 minutes and finally were able to leave. It's nice to sit outside and all but next time I'll go to Yum2Take where you get your food at the counter and leave when you want. Oh, and both the cappucino and latte macchiato we ordered were lukewarm at best!!! Blech!
Posted by: "hmmmmph" at 10:53 am on 24.Jun.2007went there last Friday for early dinner at 6PM. We got a nice table at the wall, though we had no reservation, just decided to try the coquiles St. jaques with bulgur which were just wonderful, as well as the fondant au chocolat. Will definitely come again. The service - a young, attentive guy gave good wine recommendation, yes it took some time to get the bill, but we enjoyed a great evening.
Posted by: "kurakura" at 9:25 pm on 4.Jul.2007I went to try the Cameleon for lunch today since I had a very good dinner experience about a week ago. I'll review both dinner and lunch. Dinner: 70€ for 2 with apéritif, main course and dessert. I give a €€ We were a party of two and the restaurant was really quiet, only another party of three being served. The owner of the restaurant welcomed us and proposed to start with a cremant rosé apéritif. The drinks softened us enough for me to go with the "tuna a la plancha" which is one of the best fish courses I've ever had. Presentation of the food was really given an effort to please and gave a beautiful look to a very delicate and tasty dish. We both got for dessert the "fondant au chocolat" with coconut ice cream. I am mouthwatering again just to think about it. We had the pleasure to talk with the owner as well at the end of dinner. He indicated us that his place was also opened for lunch with a Lunch: €13 for main course and salad. € I was on a stroll today through the Marienplatz area and I thought of trying the lunch carte from Cameleon. I was not served by the owner today but by some younger guys. Service was correct but I was expecting more. I got the plat du jour which was a fish bouillabaisse. I was expecting a soup with merely any chunk of fish and was pleased when the waiter presented me the plate: scallops, shrimp, fish all really fresh and flavorful. Veggies were fresh and really tasty as well. The accompanying glass of wine made everything even better. I really enjoyed the salad with the rest of bread and roux spread. All in all a very good lunch although a bit expensive on the side. They have items on the menu for €7.50 which might really be worth a try. The only downside is you have to pay for taffelwasser which should be free. Definitely recommend Cameleon for dinner or lunch special treat.
