Some reviews on the TT chat forum: Cafe am Hochhaus
A select quote:
"Cafe am Hochhaus - Refered to by me and my mates as 'Cockhaus' because it's full of Glockenbach wankers. Very popular since the summer where people would just stand around outside it to bathe in the reflected trendiness. Not too bad a bar inside, but it's just a bar, nothing special, and often too busy to move. Plus they have one of those door policies where they let people stand outside in a big queue even when it's not totally full, just to attract more interest. Quite why you would queue in the freezing cold to get into a packed (and average) bar is beyond me! Depressingly enough, it's probably one of the better bars in the GBV."
Well, I'm confused mate.. Is it good or bad, totally full or half empty. The fact is that Hochhaus was already the 'in' place to be the week after it opened. If you like 'in' that's good if you don't it's bad. In any case, since then, it has caught on with a wider and younger crowd and the trendy factor has actually diluted to pretty much anyone who is young or energetic enough to stand while they drink and perhaps even be up for a bit of a shuffle. Worst features: small, loud and upbeat. Best features: small, loud and upbeat.
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 4:45 am on 7.Nov.2005hi... just stumbled upon worm's comment and MUST rescue my favorite hangout's reputation! Café am Hochhaus really is a cool place, not some stinking "too trendy for you" bar à la P1 !!! OK, sometimes i also find there are one too many pimped-up schwabing bimbos (mostly on weekends, then during the week it's more of my normal crowd) but then where else would they mix with, say, shabby graphic design students or tenants from the neighboring council flats? i can't deny that Hochhaus's popularity attracted some yuppie "wankers" with turned-up polo shirts collars, but they're a minority, nothing to freak about... just one more ingredient in the crazy mix of people (and music) that makes this bar so interesting! and what's that nonsense about their door policy? worm, please!!! after all you also got in (well, whether they SHOULD have let you in is questionable, considering how much you seem to despise it and everything in the neighborhood, but that's another problem) so you know: it's small, so when it's full you just have to wait, but eventually everyone gets in! well i'm not a chat afficionado, and you may discard my opinion as weightless, so instead i'll quote another forum: "...wenn du mal im café am Hochhaus warst, weisst du, wie ein Türsteher einen ordentlichen Job macht: er sag nicht "leckmich am A und verschwinde, deine Fresse gefällt mir nicht" weil er dich im Moment nicht reinlassen kann wg. überfüllung, sondern er sagt "Tut mir leid, ist zu voll, aber wenn du ein paar Minuten geduld hast, kann ich dich reinlassen" (http://www.bartime.de/location.favorit-bar.8.341.html)" well everyone's entitled to their point of view, but i really wonder what makes you so bitter? i for one am thankful for places like Hochhaus to liven up my neighborhood... maybe i'm just a "glockenbach wanker" wannabee? then at least i feel well surrounded, and my nights in Hochhaus are always fun, unlike yours...
