Excellent food and very comfortable atmosphere. Try the tables up the back where you sit on the floor and remember to make sure you are not with someone who has smelly feet. (no shoes allowed at these tables)
Posted by: "Ailsa" at 5:37 am on 14.May.2003This is one of my favorite restaurants in Munich. The food is always excellent and the Waiters speak good English if you have a problem with the menu. Considering the fact that it is near to Maximillianstrasse I find it very good value for money.
Posted by: "Loonyspook" at 6:28 pm on 4.Feb.2004Excellent food, reasonable prices, friendly warm atmosphere. Will definitely visit frequently.
Posted by: "O. Murtada" at 11:31 pm on 30.Jul.2004I was there yesterday night and have to say that food was excellent. I had chicken in red curry, mmmm... The service was also perfect, we have hardly seen them, but have never been neglected. Atmosphere is also very good, and despite it is chicky-micky area, the restaurant itself is decent and without a lot of nose-high-up people. The only thing which I didn't like are prices. They are a bit too big, so I paid for my mail dish around 14 euros. Friend took lamb and that was small by size and priced 14,50. So, good for eating, not so good for the wallet. Prices should be a bit lower and than it would be 5+.
Posted by: "Boro" at 10:44 am on 20.Aug.2004Savoury Thai for 5 Euros!! On Monday I went to the Lilalu Umsonst & Drausen Open-Air-Buhne and ate at the Thai stand while hearing live Ska tunes by the raving band 'beNuts'. I had the red chicken curry which was perfectly seasoned with fresh spices(real Thai Basil in there, too). They served 6 delicious and fresh-looking main dishes for 5 Euros and had a mixed plate for 7 Euros. Friendly, clean Thai owned and run business beside the beer stand under tent cover. Worth checking out.
Posted by: "Cymbell" at 11:19 am on 24.Aug.2004Waiters were nice but service was slow. Portions could have been larger and less expensive. Chicken with red curry was perfect. You definitely need an appetizer if you don't want to leave hungry.
Posted by: "Maria" at 3:14 pm on 18.Jan.2005We were there a few weeks ago with some friends. The food was definitely good and the drinks weren't bad but the service was sloooooooow, the portions were - regardless of your standards or expectations - pathetic, and the prices were, well, not so hot. It certainly wasn't bad but there are definitely better options in Munich!
Posted by: "Brian" at 7:32 pm on 13.Feb.2005For lunch Benjarong is more expensive than other restaurants in the area, but they make up for that with the quality of the food. I've been there a few times now and been impressed every time.
Posted by: "Currymonsta" at 11:10 am on 11.Oct.2005We have just come back from the restaurant, i must say it is a nice set up especially with the typical thai seating area. But food wise, we were so disappointed. Service is one of the worst i had for 2 months. Then, food is more than basic, look like one of the 10 000 chinese restaurants that we have in paris. Everything tastes mild, we ordered a stir fried something, when it arrived, nothing was stire fried at all, i would say boilt maybe. Then we ordered wine, rose, 2002, when they served it, it was 2004, it tasted like a 2 euros per liter wine... So as good french, we ordered a new one, red, 2002, they served a very average 20O4 again !!!! Any way, i decided to give up for the rest of the diner in order to enjoy a bit up to the bill arrived... 139 euros for 2, no deserts !!! i would have been happy to pay that for a real good thai, but come on, just the atmosphere worthed part of that... next time will try one of the other you advise, guys. Cheers christophe
Posted by: "CHRIS LATOUR1" at 10:50 pm on 18.Dec.2005I can only compare this place to Yum, and I don't think it's in the same league. The atmosphere is pleasant, but nothing really special. The menu has pictures of the cocktails, which is always a worry. As far as the food goes, the portions were plenty big enough (neither of us finished everything), but the quality was patchy. The Tom Yung Goong was good, but light on the coriander and lime leaves. However the green chicken curry was missing the complete tin of green curry paste. Bland, bigtime. Service was attentive and prompt, but overall, I don't think they deserve the gladiators thumbs up.
Posted by: "codemonkey" at 3:34 pm on 7.Feb.2006just had dinner there tonite. food was good but service was horrible. so slowwwwwwwwwww. and the waiter ignored me for 20minutes. i gave it a try but will go back to Yum.
Posted by: "Anonymous" at 10:19 pm on 27.Dec.2006I visited this place with friends last Friday. Food was ordinary, alittle bland if you ask me (but I am spoilt being from Australia) and the service was crap. All the waiters and waitresses were very rude. To the point that they would roll their eyes everytime we wanted to order something else. Not a place I would recommend. Stick to Yum.
Posted by: "Chris" at 10:15 pm on 18.Jan.2007Awesome Mai Tai's
Posted by: "Oma Stlezbok" at 1:49 pm on 2.Mar.2007I ate at Benjarong on Friday last and it was spectacular ! Good fresh food, and great service. My red curry was tasty and my date's Pat Thai was yummy too. I haven't been to Yum Thai yet, but that is next on my hit list of Munich's Thai Restaurants !
Posted by: false at 12:57 pm on 19.Mar.2007Had dinner here the other night, it was fine, but nothing special, and not particularly authentic. Yum is better for Thai and nothing beats Champor!
