Barysphär Foodclub - Munich

Barysphär Foodclub - Tumblingerstr. 36, 80337 Munich, Germany

This bar and restaurant opened with great fanfair in October 2003 and has been packed every night since! It has that certain buzz about it. There are two sections: upstairs is the restaurant area, or the "Foodclub" as they like to call themselves. There is also a long bar here where you can order bar food. But most of the upstairs section is filled with dining tables. Downstairs is the nightclubby area which has a kind of "dungeon" feel to it. Lots of pillars and hidden corners. All in all, the atmosphere is pretty funky.

By the way, many people seem to have trouble remembering the correct spelling of this joint. Alternate spellings seen are: barysphere, barys-phere, barysphere, barisphere, barysphäre, baryphäre, etc...

This place looks great inside, and definately has a more "london" feel than most places in Munich. The clientele was mostly thirty somethings, quite smart verging on schicky. I had a great zombie cocktail followed by a slightly dissapointing thai noodle salad. The dining area was packed and pretty buzzing, but I thought the djs music became a bit obtrusive as the meal progressed. Definately a good place to go preclub, not so good for a romantic meal.

well, i've been there yesterday and i was somehow disappointed, very snoby waiters, unfriendly and not very helpful, and the crowd? many wannabees, finally the food: starters were actually quite good, but the main course rather boring. it was supossed to be a Spicy Curry, but it wasn't spicy at all, nothing compared to an good old indian curry, can't understand why this restaurant gets hyped that much, really not.

I can see how the other reviewers came to their not-so-positive conclusions: lots of under-dressed, over-tanned women floating around, Pizarro and Hargreaves sitting at the next table (no joke), and a general 'we're trying really hard to be cool' feeling led me to not expect too much. Perhaps it was the low expectations, but the four of us had a fantastic evening. Cocktails - good. Service - very good. Food - excellent. Price - no complaints. People watching - make sure your better half isn't the jealous type ;) Seriously though, Everything we ate was excellent. An entire red snapper, big enough for two for €20! A 400g rib eye steak, ordered rare and served rare, best I have eaten in Germany, etc, etc. If you go, don't order curry, or thai noodle salad. There is nothing asian about this place. Stick to the grill and you should not be dissapointed...

I had the first party of my birthday weekend there, and booked a table in the club. Be prepared for pretty slow food service there, but the food itself was pretty good. There was 20 of us but we loved the atmosphere. Its pretty expensive but I suppose thats what they are aiming for here. Dancefloor is tiny, but the music is good. It gets very crowded and you can get a tad frustrated if you don't have a table booked and you are forced to stand in the walkway area between the 2 main seating areas. You will get pushed aside every few minutes by waiters delivering drinks. No probs with the waiters, all were very polite and great fun.

I have been there on a Saturday night. First upstairs for food and then downstairs for drinks. Our waiter was very nice and charming, the service was good and fast and the food absolutely delicious!! We had a Rosecco (Rose syrup w. Prosecco) as an apéro... superb! I was disappointed at the bar, since you have to have a reservation even to sit on the bar! Drinks were good (had my best Amaretto sour!) and people cool.

Visited this establishment on Saturday night. Had dinner with 11 other people. We had a ball. Food was good (Tim was right when he suggested to stick to the grill). Service was great. Atmosphere perfect and nightclub was fun! Only complaints - Wine selection was alittle disappointing and the nightclub was a little cramped in some areas. There are a few pretty people roaming around the place that don't really look like they are having any fun - but they just made the evening more fun because we had people to laugh at. Recommended.

Went there for a leaving-do with some colleagues last Friday (20. April 2007). The 'host' was too busy playing with his hair and talking on his cell-phone to seat us. The waiter seemed to have some paralyzation of the facial muscles, but otherwise managed very mediocre service, forgetting only every other drink order. Two of us ordered the Argentine steak. Two of us spent the entire weekend in agony popping Imodium, washing underwear, and wishing we were dead. DO NOT EAT THE MEAT!! Really. I'm not kidding. Two of us had food poisoning. It's not funny.

Sorry you had a bad time there, but I am pretty sure that your experience was an exception. If one is going to not eat the meat at a place like this, one might as well give up and become vegan.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT! Visited this place for the third time - last sunday evening - and for the first time in my life, I left before being served! Why.... because after waiting for about 15 min. or more and giving the "cool" waiter signs, he did not even take any orders and even although having the time to talk with the rest of the staff, talking to other guests sitting right next to us, standing around like a sculpture waiting for I know not what... he ignored us....!?! We where five people, and I would say there where about 4 more tables with people.... the place was not even half full. The only thing the absolutely incompetent and snobbish waiter was able to do, is to bring us to our table and reach us the menu! I should have known better, for the other 2 times I visited this place, the waiters were also absolutely unfriendly and a little birdbrained. They don't deserve good criticism!
