Barschwein Essen - Munich

Barschwein Essen is a bar-restaurant located on Tengstraße in Schwabing. It is the sister venue of Barschwein and has similarly priced drinks, namely 0.2l Kölsch for just €1.

Both venues employ the same system regards buying drinks. You are handed a card on arrival, with every drinks purchase the bar staff mark a tick on the card. At the end of the night you hand your card in at the bar and pay the total. Lose your card and you pay €50.

Barschwein Essen opened late October 2006 in the former premises of the Twisted Bavarian. Related chat forum topic: Barschwein opens second location

Walked in to The NEW Barschwein tonight, the old mahogany area that was the Twisted Bavarian and before that the Savoy has now completely gone and has been replaced by what can only be described as cheap put together crap. If they are aiming for the same as the place near Munchener Freiheit, then they are on their way. However, with the open kitchen (which does look ok). Tells me they are aiming for something different. Cheap drinks will be a pull for this place, but I cant help but say that this will be my one and only visit here.

i had the crisp, leafy salad with strips of lamb with a few squares of baked apples -- a tasty delight for 6,90€. the bread, 4 slices of crunchy, nearly burnt on the outside, warmed up baguette stayed half eaten on the side plate. too bad, but i guess for 7€ what should i expect? a normal salad in munich starts anyhow at 10€. our waitress, on loan from the other barschwein, was fantastic, quick, and effecient. her names sandra & thousand kudos to her. ambience is lacking, surely, but the bar as the central point of the room adds space & puts the bar staff on display. they have cheap drinks, kölsch for 1€, bottle becks at 2€ a pop, a helles for not much more than that. a nice alternative around the josephsplatz area.

well i can agree with rusty about the dodgy doorman or bouncer or whatever you want to call him, maybe he is the Schwein in bar essen, last night my daughter was accosted by him and threatened to have a punch in her face, all for requesting he move aside to let her by to go to the ladies. she is 21 and at one point with a glass of redwine in her hand he pushed her hard twice, spilling her wine, ruining her blouse and purse, anyone who knows my daughter knows she is not an aggressive sort, nor a big drinker. we're trying to reach Ralph Pelster, the owner for an explanation for this brutish bullying behavior by this thug. in the meantime she' s going to the police station nearby to make an Anzeige and contacting our lawyer. This may not be the same one Rusty is referring to, but if not they need to make sure their people are not here illegally, or just sprung from the slammer and should just bounce their ownselves back to where they came from!
