Situated in the Hofbräuhaus / Hard Rock Café block, this disco is quite special. After a couple of drinks we decided that if Scalar Lounge and Starsky's had to have a baby, it would look like Atomic Café.

They have live concerts almost every night, and when not live, they have very cool DJs. The door policy is selective, bordering on mystifying and the entry price a bit shocking, like being hit in the face with a lump of cold, wet fish. The lights and leather sofas, when combined with a disco ball, lava lamp, and an occasional Afro haircut, give Atomic Cafe a very '70s touch.

It is a very mixed crowd in a lot of respects, going from 17 to 40 and they all look like they have a post-graduate degree or something equally brainy. The cocktail card is the size of an atom and although they do have a happy hour, we have to say they are not so impressive (after visiting so many bars and clubs, we have become very picky on cocktails). But it's definitely worth a visit now and again.

Went on Saturday. The guy at the door let us in, but made sure my bloke understood that blue shirts are out and that in the future he should not wear one. I guess until he decides it is cool again. I don't know what to think about this apart from what a dick.

Guy at door is definitely a dick. But it should not be a problem getting in before 22.30.

I was there this last summer and I could not get enough of the DJ I was listening to at Atomic cafe. It was a combination of Jimi Hendrix and techno beats, as well as some other classic rock combinations. Will someone out there inform me as to where I could find music like this, I have been searching for months now. I would really apreciate it. Please email me @ yanaway17@yahoo.com if you have any suggestios as to where to find these DJ's music. Thank you, Justin

The big fat blond 40ish guy at the door? Definitely not the nicest bouncer type I've ever encountered. The previous bouncer was much nicer.

Oh, Atomic Cafe- the nights I have spent drunken and dancing within your stylish confines. Let me present a few pointers: 1. If you are really into indie/mod/new wave/punk music and the like, and enjoy dressing thusly, this is your kind of place. You will be surrounded by like minded-hipsters and dancing to some excellent tunes that will range from surf rock to The Smiths and Interpol. If you like top 40 and wearing glittery halter tops, this is not the place for you. 2. Speaking of glittery halter tops, you're not going to get past the front door if you aren't dressed right. It simply won't happen. This is a scenester venue, for better or worse. Even if you do dress right, go early, preferably from 10-11 pm, and get your hand stamped. That way, you can go grab sushi down the street by the Hofbrahaus and come back later and still get inside. Things don't get shaking until after midnight, but unless you are blessed with amazing luck or have an in with the doorman (or are just a really cute girl) you won't get in. I've seen lines literally down the block at this place. It's a little Studio 54. If you are there to see a concert, entrance to the club all night comes with your ticket. 4. Girls, bring some tissue in your purse. When the bathroom runs out of toilet paper early in the night, you'll be thankful. I love going here- but there are rules to be followed, because yeah, it is kinda snobby. But if it's your thing, you'll dig it the most.

Errr... I'm a little bit confused here. Are we talking about the same Atomic Cafe??? We've never had any issues getting in, even though we sometimes came straight from the biergarten/pub and were dressed that way (t-shirts, trainers, jeans...). None of the door staff ever felt the need to comment or refused to let us in.

Well I'll be.. And all the times I've been there, I have thought of it as a kind of unthreatening, laid back, alternative to the 'proper' clubs with a feel, somewhere between a club and a bar. Yeah sure it has an alternative leaning and sure it attracts some people who are right into their own little retro stylin' thing but only some. There's just as many little groups of 20 y.o. uni girls having their night out - it's hardly a cutting-edge style joint. But then the entire review section of this website is a great illustration of how relative everything is. I guess someone whose idea of a night club is, for example, 4004,could possibly see this place as 'out there'... yawn... I'm feeling sleepy tho... God Bless
