Tacky wall paintings (hence the name of the place)- good quality of food and service, yet below usual one-star standard. Two examples: - sommelier hesitated to make a suggestion, tried to teach me how to correctly order wine instead - bread wasn`t served after the first time- had to order it explicitely - entree was banal
Posted by: "Christoph" at 3:56 am on 17.Apr.2005I agree with Christoph, especially on the tacky wall paintings and the service. My waiters usually seem to be distracted either by a footy match or a pretty waitress. No harm in that but not what you would expect from a one star restaurant. The food is always good but its their molten chocolate cake that keeps me going back.
Posted by: jml at 10:36 am on 18.Apr.2005Restaurant definitely deserves its Michelin star, and measured up to Concierge's recommendation at Hotel Dorint Sofitel. Waiters were from Bergamo and Lago di Como (one had worked at many renowned places in Los Angeles were we often dine as well), and had expert and arcane knowledge of the wines of Valsesia and Piemonte. My Piemontese spouse, whose forebears and relatives had been active in high-end restaurant business in Northern Italy for about 100 years, was more than satisfied with cuisine, service, and ambience. Decor was not "tacky" but refreshing and appropriate for being "what it was". Suggest other diners go to Alte Pinakothek in order to "dine" on high-quality art if they prefer.
Posted by: "Donata Lewandowski" at 5:09 pm on 7.Oct.2005This restaurant is overrated. The service is definitely 5 star, and the presentation of the meals is imaginative. Sorry, meals is probably not the right word - pieces of food. Do not expect to have anything nearing a normal portion size at this restaurant. Even the bread rolls were the size of birds eggs. A salad with river crays - produced 3 tiny crays and a leaf. The prices are simply too exhorbitant given the servings sizes. If you have eaten beforehand, then maybe you can enjoy the ambience and service......
Posted by: "Chelle1" at 11:44 am on 8.Oct.2005Aquarello`s is, rightly, considered to be the best Italien Restaurant in Munich and one of the best in the country, but even they dont get it 100% right all the time! If you want portions that are going to fill you to bursting then go to the Hofbräuhaus. As far as the Deco`s concerned it`s not my style but i wouldn`t say its tacky, if you like a bit of Kitsch the its ok. The prices are high but thats Munich and its cheaper then Tantris and a number of other star restaurants in the city. Its good....it really is and i eat in a LOT of excellent places!
Posted by: "Ian" at 11:26 am on 21.Mar.2006Its just amazing to enjoy the awesome and creative food there. Aquarello´s considered to be the best Italian Restaurant in Munich. Fair-minded, all service & pleasentness is commendable - not to mention the "pieces of highest creativity". You will definitely come back and come back and ... just come back!
