Hiya,
looks like Sat. 11 December is good for most people (at least 7-8 so far), so let’s go for that date.
… THE AFGHAN OPTION
As promised I went on a little recce on Sat. afternoon and I can tell you that Lemar (suggested by JB) looks pretty pleasant.
-- The only obvious drawbacks are that it has limited disabled access (please let me know if that affects any TTer who’d like to come along) and
-- they only accept EC cards.
-- Starters range between €3,50-5,50, main courses between €8,50-12,50, wine’s around €4 per glass, and there’s a good selection of veggie dishes.
…ALTERNATIVELY
I’ve asked one of my foodie friends to recommend an alternative just in case Lemar’s been booked out by the time I make the reservation so as an alternative/fallback option I’d suggest the Thai restaurant Chao Praya in Nymphenburger Str. It’s a bit pricier with
-- starters+soups in the €5-10 range and main courses in the €10-15 range but apparently the food’s excellent, and
-- they’ll take almost any card (Amexco AmericanExpress, Eurocard, Diners, Visa).
…BOOKINGS BY SATURDAY 27 NOV.
December being a busy month (according to the chap I spoke to they’ve already 30-40 bookings for the next few Sats.) I think I’d like to make a reservation at the end of this week. The thread will stay open for any additions/changes till the evening of Sat. 27 Nov. and I’ll post a reminder a couple of days before our night out to confirm. It’d be great if the “maybes and perhaps those who prefer 4 Dec. can also make it (Topsy? Petal?). And for any newcomers, anyone who fancies the idea of spending an evening with us 30+ lot is welcome.

Hi
I can't make the 11th but could currently make the 4th.

I definitely can't make the 11th either, I'll be in the UK visiting family (kind of an ersatz-xmas). But I think you're right, the 11th was the most popular option.
Have fun and I'll hopefully join you next time around

I think the 11th should be OK for me.
I'd do either one. Baaaa!

I do prefer the Thai option.

Either the 4th or the 11th are fine for me and the Thai option would be my preference.

Hi there. Thanks for organising. I'm coming on 11th wherever you go - it was great fun last time! May I dare to suggest you just make a decision on the place and go ahead and book? You will never please everyone! Anyway count me in, Toytowners are great company wherever the place ...

Add me to the list for the 11th! Looking forward to it.

Hi,
I don't think we can make it this time, sorry. I'm definitely interested in some time in the New Year though, but we're pushed in the run up to Christmas.
Bye for now,
Gary

I will try and make it. I have yet to meet any TT'ers

@Nicky,
hmm.. looks like the Thai option is gaining an edge over the Afghan one - fine with me, I'm a great Thai food devotee. Let's see..

I am actually hoping for the Afghan food, I love trying new stuff. If you decide on the Thai, that is okay, but I really want to try the great food you were all talking about.

OK, here's a revised list of who can make what when &c.
brian 11 Dec
carm 11 Dec, Afghan
interpl'j. 11 Dec - maybe (18 Dec.)
johnnywho 11 Dec
jooly booly 11 Dec
nicky 11 Dec
petal 11 Dec
helena either, Thai
kat either, Thai
owain gl. either
triple ch. either
katrina 4 Dec
topsy 4 Dec
webm.6 no dates
americanj. no dates
biogeek no dates
... plus a few noncommittal maybes.
So.. this looks like at least 11 of us are going out for a Thai or Afghan bite on Sat. 11 December, say around 8ish - fab!
(such a shame, Katrina, Topsy
)
If we end up with more than 15 people I'll see whether we can have two long tables at right angles to each other or something, so that we don't end up miles apart.

Wish I could be there but can't--travelling and putting out a few fires along the way---enjoy what promises to be a great evening...next time for sure.

Have fun,

I would love to come hang out and meet some folks on the 11th but I can't commit until after I finalize my travel itinerary for that week. (definite nogo for the 4th)
Location/food type doesn't matter for me.
I am actually going to check out the Afghan restaurant this Friday after I go to the opening of the Christmas Markets, so Thai sounds good for the 11th.

I don't know if it's of interest but my favourite Afghan restaurant in Munich is:
"Chopan"
Elvirastr 18a
18956359
I've been there twice now and can only recommend it. I'm in no way affiliated with the resaurant owners but I have to admit to knowing the owner's daughter (platonically not carnally) through a course I attended. That's how I got to know the place. The food costs a wee bit more than average but it's not bank-breaking by any stretch.
If possible, I'd like to vote for Afghan rather than Thai, assuming I'm not to late to either vote or reserve a place

Hiya,
I'm planning to make a reservation for us over the weekend. Among those of you who have confirmed, two are explicitly dreaming of Afghan food, and another two are explicitly pining for Thai. If more people confirm by tomorrow, stating a definite preference, no probs, I'll call the preferred restaurant first, to see if they can fit us in. Anyway, the turnout's looking good.
Those who have confirmed so far are:
1. helena (Thai)
2. kat (Thai)
3. owain glyndwr
4. triple choc
5. karambos (Afghan)
6. carm (Afghan)
7. nicky
8. petal
9. sub (+1)
10. sub’s guest
11. (webmaster6)
Almost about as many had said they would/might like to come in the original thread:
1. americanjohn
2. biogeek
3. turnip
4. brian
5. interplanetjannet
6. johnny who
7. jooly booly
As that first post sank in the depths of the TT Events section for a bit, it'd be good if those strong maybes, plus any late-comers could post or PM to let me know whether they'd like to come along.
... In the next episode of the thread we'll find out whether we're having mild Afghan or spicy Thai for supper on that night...

my preference would also be for Afghan, though i am easy.
And just to even it up I would prefer Thai... actually so would my guest, so Thai ahead by one point now I think
Late Entry: Can you add JAM + 1 for...Afgahn. Never had it before - could be worth trying!
Owain Glyndwr

that puts Afghan in the lead again!

I would really really prefer the Afgahan restaurant, Thai, is well, just so ordinary (boring!)... as I write this after lots of cocktails.

I would go for either one, though I ended up missing the Afghan dinner last night, I'd be keen to try it -- the vegetarian options sounded yummy!

The score so far: Afghan - 6, Thai - 4, ...so-long-as-it-tastes-good - 4, so I'll try to book a table for 14 at Lemar. Any late additions, please PM.

This outing sounds like a lot of fun; I may be able to come, but it all depends at what time I get back from my business trip !! However, if I can't make it this time, I'll definitely be there for the next outing !!

... and the winner is: an Afghan culinary experience at Lemar, on Saturday 11 December, at 19:30. I did try to book a table for later, by the way, but they're already pretty full, what with Xmas functions and what have you.
Here's who's confirmed they're up for it:
1. helena
2. kat
3. sub (+1)
4. sub’s guest
5. triple choc
6. nicky
7. petal
8. owain glyndwr
9. karambos
10. carm
11. biogeek
12. jam (+1)
13. jam’s guest
14. webmaster6
I have actually reserved a table for 15 people to be on the safe side, so there's room for one more. I'll be posting a reminder plus the address &c. nearer the time. Hope you can all make it.

Could you confirm place and time - maybe put it back to the top. It's difficult to follow what's going on! Look forward to seeing you all again. It was fun last time and this time's going to be even better ...

I'd be up for it (love Afghan food) but Saturdays are taboo.
Dammit.
