Holidays to the UK are a bargain at the moment

Favourable exchange rate, everything's cheaper

Hi folks, thought the title would grab your attention.
Yes its true! Went back to UK for a shopping holiday for 3 weeks (drove from S Germany to fill the car with goodies).
Reckon the savings more than paid for the fuel and ferry crossing. Euro is strong and despite recent headlines on UK inflation believe me folks its much cheaper over there! Even purchased camping equipment (including a smart new tent) ready for our trip to the Adriatic next month. The car was bursting with stuff on our drive back.
My advice - get over and shop now while the bargains last and before the Euro crashes to realistic world levels again.
TIP - TESCO home ware stores - relatively new and full of bargain stuff eg. Hiking sticks for £8 a pair! or how about a new duvet? Its all there - plus the usual great world class shops offering genuine sales now. smile.gif

Just returned for a trip to blighty after 6 months over here and what bliss! UK was always cheaper for clothes shopping (in quality and price) but I hadn't expected to be filling my car with groceries from TESCO! Yeah we all know that supermarkets here in germany are a third world experience with especially poor quality vegies and salad products - not much we can do about having to buy locally the fresh essentials of life. But everything else from toilet duck to choclate is much better and much cheaper in UK. Reckon we saved the cost of the trip over with the stuff we have "stockpiled". The pound sterling is down about 15% against the euro since last Nov so those bargains are really worth having. My advice - if you're planning a holiday head for blighty and shop until you drop.
Even the beer at the pub was no more than I pay for one here in Munich. Get on those web sites for cheap hotel rooms! The nearest big TESCO is just up the hill from Dover - but the rest of the good guys are also there in easy reach - Morissons, ASDA and Sainsburys. You can wallow in a truly enjpyable supermarket experienece - what a joy!

That's right - and I said then then that as a result of a quick trip that I was planning a holiday trip. This is just to re-confirm to the folks out there that UK makes a great holiday destination! tongue.gif

I'm in England at the moment and amazingly petrol is cheaper here than in Germany. Everybody is moaning how expensive it is but at current exchange rates it's about €1.45 a liter. Diesel, however is about €1.65!

I noticed after my last wee trip clothes are definitely cheaper as are household goods, but going out for drinks/meal is still definitely more expensive.

If you're earning euros then products in the UK cost less than they did a year ago, but I would never use the words "cheaper" or "bargain" in the same sentence as "Britain".

It depends where you are.

Word has it that only London is keeping UK inflation on track (up until a few months ago). In the capital it is said to be about 5%, which means that around the rest of the country it must be lower.
