Hi All
I will be moving to germany within the next two weeks. I need to get from oftersheim to heidelberg on a daily basis as I will be attending a language course. I would prefer to take the bus as I do not want to use my car unless I have to. I need to be in Heidelberg for 9am.
What do I need to do to get a monthly bus ticket? Is there a form to be filled out?
Is this valid from date I buy it or does it go by calendar month?
Thanks
Gerry

I'm not sure about your exact route as i live in Mannheim. but try this website for a route planner as you can even write in street names.
VRN.debut in regards to a monthy ticket you need to go to the Hauptbahnhof in Heidelberg to by the first monthly ticket to get your id section then after you can just buy it from a machine.
The cards go by the day of the month normally to avoid big queues on the 1st of the month.
Hope this helps a little.

no but its really easy to find when you get to heidelberg, i would suggest just asking someone on in heidelberg, even if you can't do it in german everyone speaks english there.

The Hauptbahnhof is on Willy-Brandt-Platz.
The RheinNeckar ticket is pretty good depending on how often you want to travel and how far you need to go. €65 per month for the entire region (http://www.vrn.de/fahrausweise).
By the way, if you fancy a game of footie on a regular basis once you've settled in, we play in Walldorf (close to Oftersheim) every Monday night. Let me know if you're interested.

For finding the schedule onthe VRN site just put in Heidelberg HBF, there is a bus in the morning at 08.14 from Oftersheim rathaus that gets to Heidelberg HBF at 08.30. Also check into the semester ticket, I am not sure of your status so you will have to check to see if you can use it, but it is about 110 for a semester, Sept/Oct to March/Apr.

Thanks folks
Will definitely look in to the semester ticket. Will ask at language school if they can give me a student ID.
@Steve: I would be interested in playing some footie once I get settled into a routine. Will let you know. Is it 11/5 a side?
If I can bring anything over for anyone, let me know and I will try to fit it in?

Depends how many show up. It's usually between 5-a-side and 8-a-side. We play on half a pitch for about 2 hours.
Just PM me when you're settled and I'll let you know the details.

Definitely won't work, they have a list (well, a full folder) of cooperating universities, and only students from those can buy. 110 rate would be only for those universities with a pre-pay share anyway, students of other universities (from list) pay 140.
Line 717 goes every 30 minutes between Oftersheim and Heidelberg. Comes into Heidelberg from Patrick Henry Village, then Speyrer Straße and goes via Hauptbahnhof to the central BRN station near Poststraße.
