Pension contribution for PhD students

Half a position, half the contribution?

Dear all,

I have been offered a 3 years PhD position in Bremen cool.gif . It is remunerated according to the TV-L E13/2 scale, which means that it is officially half a position. There will be a certain percentage to be deducted from the gross salary as a pension contribution. I am therefore wondering whether I will be paying only half of the contribution, i.e. if at the end of the PhD I will have paid only 1.5 years of contribution.

Thanks for shading light on this topic.

It's a percentage, so of course it is half of what it would be if you had a 100% position.
You still get credit for three years of contributions, but you get credited at the salary you actually received.
