Okay all you Cooks and Bakers, it's time once again to do your stuff.

This years Texas Chili Cookoff and Cookie Chillout has been set for the 2nd of August 2008.

Once again Arno at "The Zar Bar" given us the location so it's all down to you to make it happen.

Last year the Best Chili trophy left Munich City and I think it's high time we had it back.

So get that grey matter working and those taste buds sharpened and lets have "the best dog'gawn" Chili you've evr done.

The event details can be found at www.chilicookoff.de

Hope to see y'all there for a right ol' party

Yeahhh!
I got some chipotle chili powder and canned chipotle chilis in Houston last year. Bring your own sour cream.
Nicky
Is it just a case of come along or does someone need to do some organizing - like reserve a table?
Gen
Generally the Chili Cookoff takes the entire bar. No additional reservations are necessary. wink.gif Loonyspook is organizing all and mentions on the website that he could use help -- send him a PM!

LS is a Brit, that's why he spells chili wrong (on the website), and as he's organizing he decides. In case anyone was wondering (like I did last year).

Past chili cookoff threads here:

Munich Chili Cookoff 2007 - Chilli Competition
Munich Chili Cookoff 2006 - Chilli Competition
Munich Chili Cookoff 2005 - Chilli Competition
Munich Chili Cookoff 2004 - Chilli Competition
Munich Chili Cookoff 2003 - Chilli Competition
Yeti
Man, that's a long time to wait for a chili, no matter how you spell it.
Loonyspook
One request to those who know...WHO WON IN 2002.>!!! It's not on the trophy and I would love to give credit where it is due
3 Lions
If no one wants it, you can put my name down. wink.gif

I should be around that week. I guess I should start practising.
Gen
Ask Brandon, he should remember. I always thought it was that blond guy who's placed the last couple years too. But 2002, that was way in history back, BTT (Before Toytown).
bluedave
Excellent ! Love this event. smile.gif
skyne
was present at that 2002 historical event and my better half was a judge. He reckons the winner was a girl but the name is but a distant memory..
3 Lions
Thought I'd give this a timely bump, it is only 4 weeks away.

I will also bring a vegetarian chili, I wont enter it as it goes against my beliefs. But I'll make one for the veggie crowd.
Gen
You can put mushrooms in that one.
3 Lions
Mushrooms...in chili...that also goes against my beliefs now, even for the veggie crowd.
Yeti
3 Lions caters for both the believers and the infidels, I'll just turn up for whatever there is most of.
bluedave
I'm a peasant, i put mushrooms in chili and curry when i make it. ph34r.gif
butterbean
mushrooms and curry? my stomach just lurched. blasphemer.

if 3 Loins is entering, I may just have to make another trip back. wink.gif
Keydeck
Blasphemer? Many Indian recipes for curry dishes use mushrooms.

my stomach just lurched.

You'll be alright as long as you don't get hiccups. wink.gif

but this isn't curry we're talking about, it's chili!

So, I cooked chili No.1 tonight. I winged it and tried something new, turned out ok. Will have it give it the "wait 24 hours and try again" test.

For all those fans of cookies, don't forget that you too can be entering and bringing along what you feel is the best.

To make the judging simpler, I would like to keep the type of cookie more standardized, so with that in mind I would say

A Classic Chocolate Chip (or anything that looks like one, nuts, honey, whatever you want to put in it) would make judging easier.

I expect to have a lot of oooohs and aaaahhhhhs about this, so I won't set it in stone. However the person who complains the most WILL be invited to judge the cookies.

It was actually very difficult to decide last year. I have to say from appearance I loved the beer mugs...must be psychological though.

Another Kill Chili Volume X perhaps.?
don_riina
only been to the chilli cookoff once, last year, and 3Lions was apparently the only person who actually used that classic ingredient "salt" in his chilli. Every one I tasted apart from his was under seasoned, some of them VERY under seasoned. People can yabber all they like about whether or not there should be beans in a chilli or not, but seriously, little tip to all, SEASON.
Loonyspook
Well, by now I am hoping that all of you out there will have seen a poster or two. I have put out quite a few, but if you haven't, then let me know where you are and I'll head on over and advertise some more.

Just 16 days to go...So rattle those pots and pans

DDBug
Change of plans and I can make it this year - woo hooo!!!

And I might even be organized enough to bring something.

Hm, Now, my kids don't like beans, but where I come from they are part of real chili - so chili may be out with no one to test it on. But my kids love cookies, so they may eat them all before they get there...
Loonyspook
For the sake of more entrants, adding BEANS will not be a punishable offence :-) but you can always get them to tast eit BEFORE you add them
DDBug
Before? wtf?? They cook with ... oh, never mind. rolleyes.gif To each their own. Western and latino chili is obviously different from "your" chili, which is obviously different from "their" chili. ...
eurovol
Since the Spanish from the Canary Islands invented the stuff and started it in San Antonio, I guess we will have to fly to the Canary's to get the real ingredients. Oh yeah and a German invented the "chili powder". tongue.gif

Hey, is this event just for chili-makers? Are chili-eaters welcomed?
Loonyspook
This event is for everyone to come along and have some fun. Eating Chili and beng inspired to come back next year and compete is also good.
Loonyspook
WANTED :-

Well, the new website look and feel is finally getting there, thanks to some wonderful help from Shari Pierce (www.sharipierce.com)

What we are looking fo now, is anyone who has pictures from the 2000 - 2005 Chili Cookoff so we can add these to the website

Cheers and look forward to seeing ya'll on the 2nd of August

What Wiki has to say about chili
bluedave
Sorry but what the hell was that for?

A thread dedicated to a chili comp that has been ongoing for years needs a wiki link to explain what chili is? blink.gif

I found one of my grandmother's cookbooks, The Whitehouse Cookbook, published 1887. If it has a chili recipe in it then that's what I'll be making.

Says the one who's only been twice and never even tasted anyone's chili comp entries much less added her own...

Well seeing as you include the link, maybe you should have included a recipe

How about the ex-presidents

The Whitehouse Cookbook, published 1887.

Wouldn't all those recipes have vinegar in them?
Loonyspook
OKAY, update from Chii Central, Munich City Council has made getting to the Cookoff a little more difficult for Car owners.

There are a 3 bridges shut over the Isar on the whole weekend of 1st to 3rd of August.

I'm looking forward to this now, hopefully the weather will stay like this. I'll be making a Heathen Chili(Wont be entered) for the vegetarians amongst us and also my chili for this year, which is still a work in progress.

You will have real competition this year! cool.gif
Loonyspook
There is nothing better than a challenge...Are you thinking you'll be winning.?
eurovol
No doubt about it! The process has begun and the smells...well...it always stinks at first.

Let the battle commence ! tongue.gif

Now that I know there will be a vegetarian offering I just might bring my taste buds to Munich this weekend. smile.gif

If I could cook I would bring a chili, but I can't, so I won't.

I forgot to mention, if there is something I can contribute to this event that doesn't involve turning on my stove, please let me know.
