English-language manual for a Motorola C121

Where to get one when phone was bought in Germany

I purchased a simple Motorola mobile phone in Germany to use only while I was there (only to make & receive calls or for SMS text messaging).

The phone came with a user manual that was only in German.

As far as I can tell, none of Motorola's 'mobile phone' websites appear to have any English-language information about the phone. And Motorola's U.S. customer service informs me that it doesn't have anything to do with models manufactured in Europe.

Does anyone know of a source of English translations for the guides that come with European models, or of a site that has such user information available?

My model is the C121.

Thanks.

as far as I know, there is no english translation of the booklet, but there are also not many functions on it either :-)

Do you have something specific you wanted to know about it? If so perhaps I can help. This was the first phone I owned when I moved here.

Thanks a lot. I'll get back to you after I've recharged the phone (need to get a plug adaptor for the U.S. -- where I am at the moment) and reviewed some of the things I couldn't figure out while I was in Germany (will be returning there in September).

Two that come to mind:

1. I was never able to monitor the 'remaining credit' or 'call costs.' My recollection is that these always displayed as 'zero.'

2. I didn't figure out the 'voicemail' feature, so don't know what's involved with receiving 'voicemails/emails-by-phone' as opposed to 'SMS text messages,' or whether I ever got any of the former.

Just before I left Germany, someone told me that all mobile users in Germany can get their remaining credit by dialing: *100# . . . is that correct?

Thanks again.

You might be able to download a manual if you log on to another English Language European Motorola site? If your exact model is exclusive to Germany, then it's possible that a manual from another "C" model may suffice.

UK site

In your post however you mention about remaining balance, I could be wrong, but as far as I'm aware that is set by the service provider and you wouldn't get any info regarding this feature from the manufacturer's manual. You would have to check on the service provider's website.

To check your remaining balance on O2 Germany for example the short code is *101# then "call". (I've had O2 prepaid handsets in Ireland and Germany and the short code is the same for checking the remaining balance on both my Irish prepaid & my German prepaid, whereas other service providers in Ireland had different short codes to access this info. Vodafone in Ireland, for example, is *174#)

I don't know if any of the above is of any use.

The phone includes functions that are apparently designed to give that information. However, since the phone was originally a 'locked' model, it may be that those functions only work with the SIM-card the phone was intended to be used with. (I had the phone unlocked so I could use a cheaper SIM-card.)

I think *101# works with my Motorola model. At least, a figure was returned (indicating my remaining balance). Whether accurate or not (again because of my using a non-standard SIM-card) I don't know.

The closest available model (to my C121) at the UK website appears to be the C139. The problem is I have no way of easily determining which C139 features are irrelevant for my model (i.e., were added in the C139 but did not exist in the C121). There doesn't seem to be a features comparison chart.

Thanks.

I somehow switched all 'data entry' from lower-case to upper-case (I don't know how).

Do you know what I did -- i.e., (i) what key(s) I inadvertently pressed, and (ii) how to return to lower-case?

Thanks.

ringing *100# with vodafone germany here gives you your current balance. Although you can also go through their "konto server" number 22922. (where you can also change the language to english)

for voicemail, press and hold the 1 key, that should kick off voicemail setup/listen to messages.

Thanks. I'm not currently in Germany (back in September) but is the konto server number just dialed directly as you wrote it, or with any prefixes?

Isn't there something I have to press before the '1' key? If I just press '1' the phone thinks I'm dialing a number.

Did you press AND hold the number 1 until the hopefully pre-programmed speed-dial link to the voicemail server kick in?

Lower to upper case: May be to do with your "0" key. If it also has an upward pointing arrow, that's probably what's doing it. Play around and see smile.gif.

pressing the up arrow during text input changes to uppercase, pressing the down arrow changes it to lowercase. At least on my c121.

Yes, all 'press-&-hold' did was result in a 'failed call' message. But I've solved the problem, thanks.

Right, that's it, it's the '0' key that fully switches the letter 'case,' rather than simply toggling it for the current character. Thanks.

The same for me, but only for the current character, then it reverts to the current default, which on my C121 was 'caps' until I discovered that pressing '0' after typing a character does permanently switch all following characters to 'lower case.'
