This is the
2008 TT American fantasy football league.
What is fantasy football? For a basic overview, check here:
Wikipedia - Fantasy football (American).
For those interested in details on this league, the TT league is based on weekly NFL games and uses a weekly head-to-head format. There are typically 12-14 teams in our league. This is a non-keeper league which uses a serpentine draft (no auctions - no salary caps) and has a 6 team, 3 week playoff at the end of the season. Specific roster and scoring rules vary slightly from year-to-year, so check the thread for any discussion of rule adjustments for this season.
Past league winners are:
2005 -
3 Lions2006 -
perdido2007 -
Claydog

I'm probably leaving Germany halfway through the season, so it would be better if someone else does it. I asked Dennis if he'd do it and he agreed to do it.

How much?
I would pay you 50€ just to show up for the draft and sit next to Eurovol for 2-3 hours.

You are going to have to pay me first and I am worth a hell of a lot more.
I am in of course and may even host a time or three if I get some upgrades on my sat set.

As Hazza mentioned, I would consider taking over as commish this year if the league will have me. I can promise you iron-fisted dictatorial rule from a commish who stands little chance of actually winning anything
As commish nominee, I'll answer BadBob's "How much?" question with an answer of "TBD", depending on the league participants and cost of the site used. Somewhere around €30-€50. This league relies on newcomers each year, so the fee shouldn't be so high as to scare people off.

Have we given any thought to venue?

Champions is nice, but they lack variety. At least they did the last time I was there.

Jun 17 2008, 2:50 pm
We'll need a venue for the draft first. The Arc is not suitable anymore because they no longer have an internet connection there.
Greetings from Copenhagen. Are any from last year intentionally not signing up? Any new comers want to join?

And the fact that you're barred...I think?

Although, I guess if we did use the Arc, you can just shout your picks from the top of the stairs?

@Eurovol - Just what type of variety do you require from a draft venue?

Beer + internet + ??
Discussion of venue and date should probably be closely linked. I think everyone liked the Sunday afternoon draft last year (in spite of spending a nice day indoors). If we stick with that, we'd need someplace that will be open, but not too busy on a Sunday afternoon. Champions may well fit the bill. If I thought we could have some relative quiet in Kilians/Neds, that might be more convenient for all. It may well depend on what else is going on on the day we choose.
We need food, beer and WIFI and, above all, a fixed date in August? We also need 6- 8 more teams.
Joliet Jake
Jun 17 2008, 9:05 pm
We also need a place big enough to hold Eurovol and (potentially) BadBob.
I would expect that Courchene and Crouchjay will be back again. Canuck was on the fence when I talked to him last. We've lost Claydog, but his winning season was made possible by his proxy, Wahoo, so maybe she'll have her own team this year.
That leaves a few MIAs:
- perdido (where you at man??)
- scots geeza
- Jake
- Jeff (Isar RiverRats)

I was thinking of where to watch the games regularly. As far as I know, Champions just has Premier. So variety as in games available for viewing.

I'm only thinking as far as the draft and where to have that.
As for the regular season, I know Outland will show the Sky games.

Beware...Cookie is thinking of retiring from her lucrative proxy career.
We held the live draft on
August 5th last year. I can only imagine many of us need to make summer plans. It would be good if we can find a date soon. An alternative to a live draft would be an online one. And if our number do not increase (to 12 or 14 teams) we may want to consider go this route?
3 Lions
Jun 23 2008, 2:45 pm
Wel I can make pretty much any date, I have nothing planned around then. I dont want to go down the online draft route, part of the fun of this competition is the intitial meet up.
In terms of location for the draft, I'm going to say we go to Champions bar.
Hazza

I want to do a live draft. It's one of the highlights of the fantasy football season as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure we will get the numbers together again - we've had to turn people down the last 2 years.
Also, for people who can't be at the draft, surely we can include them through Skype or similar - maybe even set up some kind of video conference (just need a web-cam for the draft board), so that they can also draft live with the rest of us...
EDIT: as far as Draft day goes, let's just try to find somewhere that will be open for us, give us a separate room or be quiet enough for it and have WLAN. Doesn't necessarily have to be Champion's as we're not going to be watching football that day anyway. I can have a scout later in the week if you like...
Don´t get me wrong, I enjoy the live draft very much. But we have 7 teams so far, and I can´t see where we are going to get 5 - 7 more?
Hazza
Jun 23 2008, 2:57 pm
There - changed the title to make it more inclusive. I'm sure we'll get some more takers...
EDIT: I'll also get in touch with Jake and Jeff
PES and the Lefties can join a live draft either the last week on July or the last week of August, or first week of September, almost certainly. Other dates may be difficult.
How about you guys? Have you planned any trips?

I'd like to do this. Maybe I can swing by your hood, depending on the date.

Jun 24 2008, 2:20 pm
I will not be here for much of the middle of August.
The EineWeltHaus has cheap ass rooms to rent and internet connection (and beer and some food) and I am sure Champions would have something for us for perhaps a few more euros or minimum orders of food and drink.

I'd like to propose some draft dates and get reaction to them. For context, the first NFL game of the season is Thursday, September 4. Our draft day should be no later than Sunday, August 31. Let's start there and work backwards. Please post if you are unable to attend a live draft on any of these dates:
- Saturday, August 23
- Sunday, August 24
- Saturday, August 30
- Sunday, August 31
If you already know that you will be unable to draft on other weekends in August, please post that information as well (with the specific dates you are unavailable - not just "middle of August").
Please note: Even if you are unable to attend on a certain date, the draft may still be held on that date if it is the best date for the rest of the league. In that event, you would need to locate a proxy to participate.
Right now, I could attend any of these dates.

@bohemka and lilplatinum
Glad to hear you are interested in joining! At this point, we are still planning on conducting a live draft. Since you are both outside of Munich, I'll ask you to confirm that you'll be able to attend or send a proxy once we set the draft date.
Saturday, August 30
Sunday, August 31
Either of these two dates suit me fine. Hell, let do a two day live draft pajama party style

.
BTW: I am outside Munich by 3 hours and have always found the draft worth the drive (as you enjoy the whole season knowing who you are winning and loosing to).
Here is a link to Eurovol´s venue suggestion. Never been there, but I never did like Champions much.

i'm imagining everyone in big fuzzy bunny slippers and pajamas (pajama pants and tshirts) with their team's logo (team as in fav. NFL team).
I think eurovol would be the exception with a tshirt that says, "be a smart ass and vote democrate" with a donkey on it.
Fly in Mere. It would be worth it, esp. if Badbob shows.

i'm honestly considering. i'll have to see if there are any flight deals (and if you bring Annabelle).

Should be able to do any of these days. If not, I'm jolly happy, cause I found some spare money to go on some sort of holiday!
