Hello All,

We are a new family in Munich, arrived from Sydney late last month for my husbands work and still getting used to our new home. I have 2 children - a daughter aged 9 and a son aged 7. We start at BIS at the end of August and we are looking for any other new families and families that have been here for a while now to catch up with and help each other out with the "culture shock". My son is especially looking for friends to play cricket with.

I would also love any advice on finding a good spot to live in that would be reasonably close to the BIS and easy access to the city. Freising has been suggested. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I am a stay at home mum so would love to know if there is a "coffee/chat club" or something similar that I could join for when the kids are at school. I have read about lots of mothers groups for mums with small children, but wondered if any groups exist for mums with other kids.

Look forward to hearing from any families in a similar situation soon.

Hey there!

We are moving in a couple of weeks to Munich from the US. We have two boys. One is 7 and the other is 9. They are attending BIS in August as well. My husband and I are here for our initial visit to find housing and get familiarized with the area. We found a detached, furnished home in Freimann. It's not very close to the school but the boys will ride the bus. It will pick them up close to the house and there are some other BIS families nearby or so I was told. We'll be here for a little over a year. We wanted to be able to take advantage of the U-Bahn and this is a good location for us. Also, we can walk to the English Garden. It's only a couple of blocks from the house. We have truly enjoyed our visit. We are very excited about our move.

I'm new as you are but just wanted to say, "HI" and that we are in the same boat. I'm a stay at home mom as well. My boys are not familiar with cricket but they'd love to get together to play when we get here. Alot of my friends have girls so my boys would never exclude a girl.

You mentioned the group for mothers with older children before I could. Glad to see it and I look forward to seeing the response. We are leaving on Monday and plan on moving here on July 7th. Hope all is well. Good luck with your search! I'll be checking in often!

Hi, it's great to hear from another mum in the same boat, thanks so much for that. Looks like our children may be in the same year at school which is good.

Will check out the Munich Cricket Club but I am sure my kids are more than willing to teach anyone the basics of cricket.

If I hear of any coffee groups for mums with older kids at school, I will let you know.

Keep in-touch and good luck with the move.

Cheers!
Kay

Failing that, you could even start one yourself. biggrin.gif

Hey!

So glad to read your response. My kids would love to learn another sport. They both play soccer in America. They're just happy to play so learning a new activity will be great! If we don't hear about a coffee club we can take Kay's advice and start one. Sounds good. There's such an overabundance of parks here we would not have to worry about where to meet. Have you looked at any homes in Freising?

Welcome to Munich!

If it's cricket you're after, you need to hook up with Pas (click on this link for his profile, then click "send message") as he coaches a youth cricket club (albeit south of Munich) and is quite the fanatic. I am sure he can give you good hints for a cricket connection.

Not that I understand the first thing about the bloody game... ph34r.gif

Hi

Sounds like we are all in the same boat. I am arriving from England in August with 3 kids, ages 11, 9 (boys) and 7 (girl) who will be going to the BIS. I too am a full time Mum, although I do hope to find work eventually once my German is up to scratch.
I would love to hook up for a coffee, in fact drinking coffee and chatting are two of my favourite things.

We will be living in Garching, and you will be welcome any time!

Regards

Hey all! We are finally here! We arrived on Monday am. We just received our internet hook up! My oldest isn't feeling his best right now but what about planning a meeting on Monday for coffee and the kids can play? I think I posted earlier that my boys are 9 and 7. We are going to BIS in the fall too!
SCGIRL
Oh and Jacqui, drinking coffee and chatting are two of my favorites too, yeah!
SCGIRL
Oh, I just noticed you won't be here 'til August, Jacqui. Email when you get here.
