Anyone want to join up for Sailing on the Amersee?
Maybe an all girl and an all boy boat for racing? Mixed crews? Whatever !

... or just a good way to spend a morning / afternoon / day on the water. If you have never sailed before, but want to try, you are more than welcome too.

Do you have access to any sailing vessels?
yotti
I propose starting where Captain Bligh left off last year, renting and splitting the costs. Perhaps if there is interest, we can resurrect the booking sheets on a weekly basis.

Whadya think ?

Hi All
The missus and I would be keen on joining in with this, we both sail a bit on dingys and cruisers.
We are away all of Aug but other than that would love to get out on the water.
Allershausen
I'd be interested, I went a couple of times with Captain Bligh and it was good fun. However, I cannot actually sail so I need an expert to, erm, show me the ropes! smile.gif
yotti
ok, several pms show interest as well. I will ask the mods if we can resurrect the old thread system of booking as it was before.
That way people can band together for cheaper rail travel as well. wink.gif

I'm keen for some sailing! I sail on my dads keeler and little trailer sailers. I'm arriving mid July. yippee!

Guy
I'd be interested, used to sail dinghies in the UK, but have only been once in the 10 years since I've been here!
yotti
ok, while we are waiting for the mods to react, who wants to go this weekend? Suggest for a first trip we go for Saturday afternoon, maybe meeting up there at about 12 ? If we start a list, then add how you are travelling, ie to ascertain if a group train ticket is possible.
Also an indication of experience, so let's use a scale of Ballast, Crew, Mate or Skipper level.

I can't make it on Saturdays, but if I could I would definitely come under the term Ballast, although I prefer to see myself as a pampered dignitary! smile.gif
stevef
Sorry I am away this weekend in Galway so no-can do...sorry Yotti, how about next weekend...same drill?
Guy
Sorry, can't make it the next few Saturdays. Experience level would be skipper for dinghies, but I've only sailed a larger keeled boat (30'er for a week in the med) once, so maybe I should downgrade to mate or even crew, at least for a first outing.
SarahD
Hi, just want to express my interest + 1...the hubby has his proper U.S. Coast Guard Captain's License for sailing large vessels, and we sail a 36 ft Beneteau that has been sadly left in the states sad.gif Also, I grew up on the coast sailing little Sunfish / dinghy's so we both have some experience under our belts.

We're already obligated tomorrow (triathlon in Bad Endorf) but next weekend would be great, weather permitting!

Cheers,
Sarah
dublindoll
We cant make it this Saturday but maybe next week? I'm crew and the hubby's ballast - just don't tell him I said that ph34r.gif
yotti
no worries, I plan to make this a regular event.
SarahD, have you considered having it delivered to say Croatia? Only 5 hours from here ! I do need more Sea miles smile.gif
Guy, first 10 minutes would do I'm sure !
Are Sundays more attractive to people ?
SarahD
are you kidding? we talk about it all the time...in fact we're planning to charter a 49' Beneteau in Croatia for 5 days with 2 other couples in late Aug, early Sept...who knows? if all goes well, we may just get that boat over here! in the meantime, you should do some chartering yourself! great way to get some sea mileage in biggrin.gif

sundays might be better...

ok, with pm's, there are 4 of us so far. I will check tomorrow about 9am to see if there are any more takers.
Remember, if you have never sailed before, this is a good chance to try it out, as the boats are extremely stable, and we are expecting light winds only. But, plenty of time if we do this on a regular basis. wink.gif
Spookyfella
SarahD, I am actually doing a couple of deliveries, and try to do the odd bit for the charter companies (end of holiday return boat type delivery), but almost any chance I get ...
SarahD
@ Spookyfella

this is good info to know! we just moved here last Sept so we really haven't talked seriously about it yet...BUT i will keep you in mind and pass it along to my better (wait, not that much better) half who would probably want to join you in delivering our boat! wink.gif

How did it go today guys ?

I didnt but in earlier as it was my boys birthday but maybe intrested in future trips out.

I helped to build my Dads Sea Wych including trailer many years ago, and crewed when built on Windermere, England, I am a bit on the large side but would love to have a go again.

Regards

Not too bad, winds a little light. But for novices, remember, light winds = easy sailing, and cloudy often means not so much problem with sunburn or heat.

Next week, folks ?
firefly86
Hey, I just noticed this thread after searching to see if there is any sailing going on near Augsburg smile.gif (just arrived last week).

I'd really like to come sailing next week if it's happening! I have experience with both small yachts and dinghys, and have been sailing with my uni club before coming here smile.gif

My email is

euancasey@hotmail.com

Cheers,

Euan
yotti
Yes, it'll be happening, and you would be more than welcome. I'll start the list for participants on Weds.

Can't make this weekend as back working in the UK for a couple of weeks. May be interested in sailing with you in the future and could possibly take some people out. Couldn't sail the boat on Amersee but Brombachsee or Bodensee could be an option. Also have an ISO if anyone feels adventurous enough to try crewing one of these.

Could be interesting . . . Can we get a little bit more info: costs, kids?
Allershausen
I'm off to England Saturday otherwise I would have come. Please don't give up on the Sunday trips, I can't make it Saturdays, but Sundays are good. I'll join you when I get back.
yotti
Costs are for just the boat hire @ € 15 per hour split between us. They can take up to 8 people, but it would be better to take another boat. The reason for the thread is really to be able to book them in advance.
Kids are welcome.
Maybe we meet up before the time to sail for a picnic lunch and give you the chance to ask more questions. There is a separate thread for the Saturday meet, and we'll see which is popular.
sea-king
I would be up for this, which sailing firm are you using?

Be glad to show anybody the ropes( so to speak)

Hi All
Can you put me and the missus on for Sunday, both comp crew level...what time etc?
Regards
damara4178
I would love to go, and will likely be dragging my husband and 5yr old stepdaughter along (pending weather and good behavior).

So please put us down for three: Me (been on a sailboat twice, got to steer once, know some idioms), hubby ("Port side, so that's where the wine is kept?), stepdaughter (she's five)
yotti
ok, Sunday sounds favourite. Closing off the one one for Sat, but please feel free to pm if you want to go on Sat in the future.

Plan:

there is a train that leaves Hauptbahnhof 12:51, change at Geltendorf and get in to Utting(Amersee) at 13:40. There's a sailing club called Ernst where we will rent a couple of Helios boats - http://www.segelschule-ernst.de/helios.htm

Travel by own transport. Meet up at the pier for Ernst segelschule at 13:45

No specialist equipment is needed. Soft soled trainers so you don't slip, a light waterproof jacket in case it rains and perhaps a jumper in case the weather looks changeable or cloudy. We can take bags onto the boat, so changing clothes or carrying drinks should not be a problem.

Please confirm by this evening, as I have to reserve the boats. If travelling by train, it pays to get together as a group to take advantage of the day tickets.

I will have my handy with me, and will pm you the number in case of emergencies !

Have I forgotten anything? Let me know.
