White House Notebook: Bush likes German asparagus

QUOTE
MESEBERG, Germany - The first President Bush, famously, didn't like broccoli. Apparently his son feels differently about asparagus. And he wants the people of Germany to know it.
In a news conference Wednesday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Bush thanked his host for a most gracious dinner the night before. He and first lady Laura Bush had been treated to schnitzel, asparagus and a bowl of fresh strawberries.
"Laura and I loved our dinner last night," Bush said. "For those in the German press who thought I didn't like asparagus, you're wrong. The German asparagus are fabulous."

Eww. Spargel. I always knew there was a good reason for me disliking Bush...

What does asparagus have to do with broccoli? And does the press really have nothing better to do than write about what this incompetent war criminal is eating? The government should be delivering him straight to the Hague for trial.

woof.

I believe it was his father that didn't like broccoli. So in fact, it has nothing to do with him.

And in other news I really couldn't care about, Marlee Matlin is currently writing her memoirs.

(No offense PES.)

I do like the white asparagus...especially when someone else peels and prepares it. Just save your MSG full white trash Maggi sauce...just give me butter, salt and pepper.

What, the press wasting time on this while more imprtant stuff goes on elsewhere...

@BD-- this is the press, they can both be green, can both be eaten and broccoli looks like a little bush.. For the press, these strong connections, if in a court case would be enough to convict and sentence anything to death...

is the sentence 'german asparagus are fantasic correct? my brain wants to say 'is'...??
Hutcho
Depends if he's talking in the plural or not. I believe the plural of asparagus is asparagus so either way is correct.

No offense taken. I only posted it because we have so few days left with Bush and how he ruined the office, the country and much of the world. And we have to read about Bush´s likes and dislike of food. I agree with Bad Doggie.

Freshly picked by underpaid Poles and other former Eastern Block nationals. Sorta like the illegal Hispanics back home in California.

BadDoggie in gets older and more mellow shocker... ohmy.gif

George W Bush - living proof of the american dream.

No matter how stupid, idiotic, unarticulate, thick, dumb, dimwitted or generaly bone headed you are - if someone can use you for their own purposes you will be a success.

Most Americans have to be bright, intelligent and hard working to get anywhere - GWB was not held back in such a way - they all looked at him and thought 'no there is a guy we can use - we mean do buisiness with.

Disclaimer - the above may or maynot be based on fact - well, execpt the dumb stupid as part wink.gif

I might be wrong about this, but while saying "German asparagus ARE fabulous" seems to be grammatically correct, doesn't it imply that he has inspected each stalk in order to be able to make that statement? Meanwhile "German asparagus IS fabulous" is a statement about the vegetable in general.

On a different note, does it freak anybody else out that the dimwit is going around calling things "fabulous" in the first place? Do you think he has "word of the day" toilet paper to enhance his vocabulary? God, now I have this disturbing image in my head... unsure.gif I would share, but it would just be wrong to do that to you kind folks.
