Hi everyone,

We are currently trying to set up a Dining Club in Stuttgart, to meet new people and try out restaurants in and around Stuttgart to learn more about what the city has to offer.
Our first meeting will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 12 June 2008 @ 7pm in Rita's Garden.

We definitely love to have more people join us (though.. we know.. the Germany game coincides with the dinner tongue.gif)
But do drop by our website for more information, or leave a contact so that we can send you the invitation to our next event smile.gif

Shame about the short notice. I've already arranged an ad-hoc dinner tomorrow evening at Tao Tao (see the thread about Chinese food).

from what i have heard! Rita's Garden is not necessarily a good(forget best) Indian Restaurant.. I would nicely avoid it.. why spoil a dinner? huh?

Well, the point of the Dining Club is not exactly all about having the best food in town. (Well, I haven't been to Rita's Garden myself, but would love to try it out before passing a verdict)
If the company's good, the food is secondary.

fair enough!

Just as a tip, I wouldn't recommend Rita's Garden either. I've been there, wasn't impressed and other reviews also aren't good. I also found it a bit expensive.

Based on other reviews and friends' experiences, Ceylonas is meant to be good for Indian food: Reinsburgstraße 74, 70178 Stuttgart (West).

If the idea of the group is to be a dining club, then I would recommend trying to find good places to eat because there are a lot of very mediocre places out there.

Have fun!

reviews?

I've given up on Indian restaurants outside India, and most of those in India too, except a few of the greats - Trishna or Mahesh Lunch Home in Bombay, almost any Saravana Bhavan, Mavalli's in Bangalore, some of the Goan restaurants in Bandra. Cooking at home works better for Indian food. Get together some tamarind beef, some fresh white rice, some okra cooked just dry enough... mango pickles... perhaps start with a mulligatawny soup, with chicken and lemon and rice and the spices fried first, not raw... finish with a carrot halwa and some South Indian filter coffee ... now you're talking food.

Ceylonas is pretty good. As is the one in Weilimdorf, whose name escapes me.

Delhi Palace is quite poor, but maybe I caught them on a bad night.

Has anyone tried the new one which has opened in Vaihingen?
JRD
Sorry to reply to my own post, but last night the current girlfriend and me went to India House in Vaihingen.

Very impressed, they failed the onion Bhaji test (as all seem to, onion rings FFS!), but the meal itself was oustanding. Prob the best curry I've had in DE.

Kohinoor, Weilimdorf and you didnt invite me Mr Jrd!

A little lacking in atmosphere, but the place in Boblinger Strasse ( next to Postbank ) has good food, not brilliant but I preferred it to Indian Palace etc.. I would like to join the dinner one week! So please keep posting up on here.. and after the football...
JRD
Is that Veela, or something similar.

Went there once, was decent, but as you say not much atmos. Think we were the only ones there.

Well? How did it go, and when's the next one? Bit of an exclusive club, this ;)
alegria
hey diners, are you considering other cuisines too?
JDee
other than indian ohmy.gif confused ?

I don't think there are any British restaurants here, is there anything else ? smile.gif

Im only teasing, I've got some good recomendations for Turkish, Italian, Spanish and 'International' style places, when is the next evening planned ?

EDIT :: I have now noticed the link above, so I will take a look there!

Maybe it can be unofficially referred to as the Stuttgart Wine and Dine ., uhm or Beer

How many managed to show at the first one ?

But food and drink will be great, keep us advised of the next one

Cheers

:( sorry, don't mean to seem exclusive, but it's just that I set up the blog page for the group (http://stuttgartdiningclub.blogspot.com) and I was hoping to get more people to go to the blog to leave a comment or something.
It's hard to keep track of forum replies at work, I would probably get into trouble if the System Admin sees that I'm hitting the Toytown germany website like 10 times every minute. :P
I keep a mailing list of people interested and i send out a email for each event. So if anyone's interested, leave me a message with ur email and i'll include you on the mailing list

Reviews:

Ritas Garden was pricey like some of you have mentioned. But the food was relatively good.
I actually went to the recommended Ganesh 2 days later to make a comparison :P Ganesh is definitely more affordable, but I compared the briyani and i actually preferred the one at Ritas Garden.

We had our second meeting yesterday at Er Vaquita (Spanish) and 9 people turned up :) Was a great group!
Er Vaquita was great! Definitely recommend that place if you love seafood. Apart from pesky little flying things and bees bugging us (We were sitting outdoors), the food was good.

On a side note, a bunch of us from yesterday are planning to head down to the FischMarkt tomorrow (see thread: http://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/index...owtopic=102395).
