Hi,

I wondered whether anyone could recommend a good place to learn the german language in Karlsruhe. I will actually be living in Baden-Baden but the language school there is quite expensive and doesn't always have enough students to make up a class.

Cheers

Hi,
Having once worked in language schools, I always look for alternatives. Language schools are a rip off, both to teachers and students.

I teach English in the PH (teacher-training college) in Karlsruhe, and students are just begging for native speakers to improve their English. How about setting up a tandem course. You give English conversation/lessons and they give you German lessons. You may even find someone in the Baden Baden area.

Thats an interesting idea. I shall be living in Baden-Baden from September onwards and perhaps I will put an advert somewhere.

Thank you for your kind advice.

I am also looking for a good language course in Karlsruhe. I am an American woman soon marrying a German. We will be living in Karlsruhe from October 2008.
I heard I will be eligible for some subsidies to help pay, but if the courses are not worth my time, I don't mind to invest in a better quality course even if it's more expensive.
I just need a very good intensive 1-3 month full time course. I have been self-studying for about half a year and have the basics. Need help with pronunciation though.
Also i have been a teacher in Taiwan for 7 years so I would love to get a part time teaching gig to, then look for a full time job after the intensive course.
Anyone have any info or leads to send me in the right direction?

You could take a look at the VHS in Karlrsuhe, when I first came over here (with no German knowledge) I attended an intensive German course at the VHS in Ettlingen and it really kick started my german. I'd recommend you try a larger VHS than Ettlingen as they stopped the course after 3 months due to lack of numbers.

see Karlsruhe VHS though I can't comment on the quality of teaching here.

good luck
