Where to order heating oil

Tips on the best prices etc.

Looks like we forgot to order more heating oil for our house. The people came the other day to clean it out and said we only have about 350 liters left. It can hold up to 11,000 liters maximum. We were told it had 4,500 liters when we moved in almost 2 yrs ago. So I think we probably just want to order 4,000 liters.

I heard you need to call a few places and ask around on prices to get the best price. I know you can also do it with your neighbors but I think we are at a critical point and need to get it ASAP.

Can any of you help with phone numbers and businesses that I can try to contact? Perhaps websites as well if that's available?

Much appreciated,
John

It's of the small private-owned heating oil companies left in Munich, a lot have been bought by larger companies such as Montana.

I think Michael speaks english, see how far he'll go down on the price. smile.gif

Ok, I did a search on Google.de for keyword "Heizöl" and I got about 4 different companies where you can go online and type in your postcode and number of liters you need and they will provide you with quotes immediately. Then you can order the whole thing online and sometimes even pay it online. The one I went with today was at 77 cents for 100 liters and didn't charge me for delivery. You have to watch out for that - some places will charge you about 15 euros for the delivery bit - that's why they ask how many delivery stops for the oil you want. This is because some people order in a group and then the company has to make 4 different stops.

You'll notice that the higher the number of liters, the lower the per liter price for the oil ! This is why people order this stuff in groups and how they get this better deal that they all talk about. So if you can jump on that with your neighbors then that'll be the best deal. Otherwise, in my opinion your not gonna get any magic prices in this market and people won't give you big discounts because they need to make their margin on the base oil price. So shop around because some people can go down a bit (from 78.8 to 78.2 for example).. but if you look at the end price it's usually not a big deal because you are spending so much money on oil already that this difference in price may save you about 30 euros.

Lastly, with some companies you'll have to pay at the door when they deliver it to you. That could mean you are giving them thousands of euros! Strange!! But that's the way it works in Germany. So get it from your bank beforehand.

By the way, I called the company mentioned above [http://www.heizoel-thurner.de/] and Michael tried to give me a good price but it wasn't as good as the others I found on the internet. Granted, not much of a difference but to me every euro counts and it's all still oil - as long as it gets delivered correctly it should be fine.

Hope this helps you all.

11,000 litres must be a massive tank. Ours is 4500 litres & lasts us 1.5 years unless we get a heavy Winter. Curiously prices in past years have seemed always to dip Jan/Feb. We were lucky to fill up at the minimum (more luck than judgement). We usually combine order with neighbour & that gives a marginally lower price.

Rechnung comes 2 days later & we pay it. Have never handed cash over at the door.
