Everybody in my village has decided to put flags on the outside of their cars. I really have no idea why but I'm feeling left out. Anybody know where I can buy an England one?

Thank you. Because of this post, I have become a better person. It was a hard fight, but I withstood the urge to ridicule the english football team.

If anyone has a Union Jack or two that they might like to lend/give me, I would be very grateful - also feeling left out with all these German and Turkish flags about - it´s just not right!!
do you really want to draw attention to the fact that england didn´t qualify?
I've spent all day constructing an effigy of Steve McClaren that I shall be dragging behind my car for the next three weeks.

Who cares about football - I can still show support for my country, and be proud to be British!!!
Well that's all very well and good for you, mate, but I'm English.

well, yes, okay, but the Union Jack is better recognised by the rest of the world than simply the Enligsh flag, don´t you think?

I think people who don't recognise the English flag must have lived locked up somewhere without TV, magazines or any other info from outside during the World Cup last year - everybody else will well remember the thousands of English fans over here with the shirts, the flags and the painted faces.

You can buy flags at shipchandlers. e.g.
www.awn.de or
www.compass24.deAWN also has shops in some German towns.
To many Germans, the Union Flag/Jack
is the English flag.

This weekend Jenson Button has switched the English flag [Union Flag design] on his helmet for the English football flag [St. George's pennant design].

I know, it's sad, isn't it!
But it's not really surprising, because you see the Union Jack just everywhere, adverts for trips to London etc. - the English flag you don't see so much, football is one occasion where you DO see it, so people who watch a lot of international games might be more aware...

Try one of those tourist shops in the pedestrian zone, you know, the ones that sell Bierkrüge. I got a Scottish flag there that I intend to tote around.
I do not and will not own a Union Flag. I've got 5 or 6 English Flags, because I am English and not Britisch. I don't stand up for God Save The Queen because it isn't my national anthem... or royal family (we don't have either, unfortunately... a bit like passports). I speak English English and not Britisch English, and while I have nothing against the Welsh, Scots or anybody else (apart from The Britisch, obviously), I am a 100% bone fide Englishman, proud to make this statement. In fact, I'm so English, I can taste the blood on my tongue. I did have a nasty scare once when I discovered that my great-great grandmother on the mother's side was born in Pontypridd, but on analysis it turned out that both her parents were English. Still, my generation is the one that has bollocksed it all up. My son is half German and my brother's kids are half Irish. Still, at least they're half English... and in no way Britisch, eh?

I however am comprehensively British - a full mongrel with English, Irish, Scots and Welsh at grandparent level. And I'll fight any man in this pub...

I'm part Greek/Italian. While you're fighting away I'll shag your partner.
No idea where to buy an England flag, but will the ******* who stole my Welsh flag from my office door give it back? That flag has been on TV and I am (was?) rather attached to it.

A union jack is not the English flag its a St Georges cross.Got 4 of em and that is one for everyone in the household. It is not true that we are not a part of the European Championships. We are taking a team of 3 players and that could be enough to get in to the final.FACT FACT FACT

I have a small English flag, almost unused, that I got 2 years ago for the World Cup. But I won't be going around waving it just now - that would just be inviting ridicule.
And a bit off-topic, but why are so many Germans going around waving black, red and yellow flags? It's gold, not yellow. Don't they know the colours of their own flag?
Yeah, you'd think when they're made in China and flogged as German made in Germany by Germans that they'd get it right.

Wonder what it says in your passport then. English by chance?
I want to insist on being Badisch and the Badner Lied be my anthem - not any of that federal German bollox. Yes.

I think that mis-spelling may have been intentional.
I've never really thought about it before, but are there any international team sports where we have a British, rather than English, Scottish, Welsh etc national team? Is there such a thing as a British tribal instinct?

The Olympic Team is British and the Lions Rugby Team is Britain and Ireland.

The rugby league team used to be GB but has split into separate home nations.
I think because they ran out of people to play.
Track and field is usually GB, unless it's the Commonwealth Games.
Davis Cup is GB.
Loads of sports actually.
