Young people in Charlottenburg

Where to hang, and anyone want to meet up?

Howdi,

I am almost about to accept a job as an au pair in Chrlottenburg as I have found it difficult to find a job in F'shain area. I was in Charlottenburg last week and I reckon I was the youngest person around! I am 25 and just wondering if any of the young crowd live or hang out down there as I dont want to miss out on the atmosphere of Berlin by living there. So if anyone has some insight or if a group of youngish people want to get together in C'berg id be keen to hear from you. Cheers - Matt

Charottenburg is not the liveliest part of Berlin, especially if you are on the outskirts. While there is the odd cafe and bar, it's mostly hi-brow shops and traffic. As is always in Berlin, you can get to all the hot spots (whatever that means for you) with public transport which is excellent and good value if you buy long term tickets (i.e. monthly or yearly). Berlin is also reasonably bike friendly - being pretty flat, and for it's size there is not too much traffic (except in Charlottenburg - just joking!). So if you're not too far out, you can easily bike to Schönberg, which is pretty lively - however getting out to P'Berg and F'Hein by bike is a pretty long trek - you're best bet from there will probably be going round the Ring line).

Charlottenburg (or Charlottengrad, as the locals nickname it due to always being a Russian-Jewish quarter) has many cafés, bars and well established night life...3 of the top ten night life spots are there like A-Train, etc. However, it is somewhat the yuppie chic neighborhood of Berlin...young professionals without children (opposite of Prenzlauerberg) and somewhat expensive.

Mitte is basically now only for tourist and rather boring for the locals.

P'berg, like ive said is basically young families, watch out for all the prams and strollers, as well as the other half (dead beat students refusing to get a job or self procclaimed artist, creating their next crayon masterpiece.)

Friedrichshain (or FREEKrichshain) is somewhat a deplicated, life-student, unemployed pseudo-intellect area...basically a ghetto...there are the one or two odd places, but trust me, if you dont know they exist, you wont miss them. Also a lot of right-wing extremist in several pockets of F'shain

Schöneberg & Kreuzberg seem to be the most happening places in Berlin - great restaurants, shopping, parks...goes all hours of the night more likely with many options.

I guess it depends on your source of the "top ten night life spots".

According to DJ Mag's poll of the Top 100 Clubs based on a survey of DJ's, of the Berlin clubs that made this year's list (Weekend, Watergate, Tresor, Berghain/Panorama), none of them are in C-Berg.

C-Berg is good for getting your sleep after you're tired from partying somewhere else.

Zitty, Tipp, Belinerstadt Magazine.

Tresor? come on... they pay big bucks to make the Fromer's Tour books...but hardly worth the effort, compared to newly hip Rodeo.

Spindler & Klatt is ranked one of the tops in Europe. (Dancefloor Stars, DJ Europa, etc.) ...more people should hear about this really dynamic, interesting place right off the Spree.

I lived in Charlottenburg for 6 months when I moved here and I managed to go out every single weekend and then some (almost never in that area though)...much more than I do now living in Kreuzberg, due to burnout and simply getting older. If you are young and want to party you will find the energy to do so no matter where you live in the city.
