Getting rid of a bike, giving it away for free

Hi,

I have a mountain bike that I hate and want to get rid of. It's not worth much so I am giving it away. It's only been used twice, each time for no longer than 20 minutes.

I am thinking of putting it on the street with a note saying "Free". Does anyone know if this will work? Do Germans feel comfortable helping themselves to stuff?

Where in Hamburg do you live, i have a friend in need of a bike and could use a free one if its not falling apart.

I was going to suggest just leaving it unlocked somewhere, somebody would be bound to take it.

That's what my husband wanted me to do...but I am much happier that it is going to someone who really wants it.
