Hi to the Müncheners lot!
I am looking for a hotel recommendation (up to € 140/night incl. breakfast) where I will be close to town, close to the English Garden (attending an event at the Hilton) and close to a connection to the MOC.

Any ideas?

Just go to Booking.com and take your pick. It's not worth spending hours researching the perfect hotel if it's only for one night. And do a forum search, because there are already plenty of threads on hotels in Munich.

STB:
I did try a forum search, but did not really get the lead that I was looking for (leads were for family / cheap hotels).
My geography of Munich is non-existent, hence my specific query!

I will try booking.com. Thanks for your input. I think I will start using a travel agent again, the savings through DIY travel booking are quickly negated by hours of research.

This place should do the trick

Its right on the English garden, it will be a nice short walk to the hilton and assuming you mean the MOC in Freimann, its a very short walk (five mins) to Münchner Freiheit where you can get the u6.

I put my parents in there last time they visited. The decor is old fashioned, but the location is fantastic. Price is within your range i think.

Park Hotel in Lehel...clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and great location for Englisher Garten

The Holiday Inn at Leopoldstr. could be also a good choice. But at the time you want a room it costs 148 EUR without breakfast.

Thanks everyone! I will check those out.
Holiday Inn would be ok - I would get airmiles too...

Thanks again!

we're staying in Suitehotel München Parkstadt Schwabing, Lyonel-feininger-str. 22 when we visit for the first time in July.

not expecting much as it is cheap as chips <70Euro per night for suite room to accommodate 2 adults and young kids, but it is the summer so will be out most the time. anyone know this hotel and/or the area?

Area is predominantly business area just North of the Frankfurter ring. About 10 mins by bus to Münchner Freiheit, or 10 minute walk to u6. Not much in immediate vacinity, but a reasonable choice given the cost.

A simple search: Hotels close to the English Garden.

I've done a lot of research on this as I work by the MOC (actually in it for the moment as we rent some office space there).

Your best bet is to look for hotels on the U6, it takes you to Freiman and from there the MOC is 10 mins walk. The Schwabing area is a good start". Good hotels that are reasonably priced in the area include Flemings on Leopoldstr. and Otello on Hohenzollerstr. Both were ok but a walk away from the Englischer Garten.

none of those are really "close" to the English gardens, though (although no-where is really *that* far from them in Munich). Nice try, though, but no cigar.

Not sure about prices (because i can't be bothered to look) but the Marriott and the Renaissance are both handy for the MOC and fairly close to the English gardens (just over 1km). They are right next to Nordfriedhof U-bahn station which is a few minutes by train to the MOC.

If you can stand Pension living just two blocks west of the entrance to the Englischer Garten is Pension Steinberg at Ohmstr. 9. Two blocks from the Giselastr. U-bahn. 20 minute walk to Marienplatz. Bed and breakfast. Last I heard they have a double room (with in-room bathroom) going for around 75 euros a night. Have stayed there. Comfortable and friendly.
They have a website Hotel-Pension Steinberg.

Thanks hughk - the problem that I have had is the name of the area. Google maps is a good tip too. Cheers everyone!

Cheshirecat, one thing to be aware of if that if you have to cross Muenchener Freiheit by car (i.e., Taxi) there are major roadworks at that point along Leopoldstr. It can add about 10 mins if the taxi driver messes up.
