How to explain previous UK health insurance status

What to declare when applying to a German provider

I have been living and working in Germany now since the 1st September and applied for my health insurance (IKK-Direct) straight away.

However IKK are having difficulty understanding my health insurance status before moving here, and my company aren't having much luck explaining it to them.

They're asking for the insurance status in the 6 months before moving here, so while I was living in the UK unemployed (but not taking benefit), the only health insurance I was on is national insurance but I'm not sure if this counts?

The options on the form applicable to me are basically, either a) Insured abroad or cool.gif No health insurance

If I put insured abroad, should I say I've been insured with national insurance my entire life, or from when I received my NI number? or something else?

Thanks in advance...

I believe that UK Nation Insurance is perfectly valid to put down - after all that what pretty much of UK populace has...
In that connection I would assume you have had that since day zero...

Agree - put UK National Health Service as insuring you since birth and the IKK-Direkt should be able to accept it (they did for me without problems)

tick insured abroad then they'll be happy and shut up

every public health insurance has to check if you have been either insured with a EU public health insurance system during the last 12 month before moving to Germany or at least 24 month out of the last 5 years. Therefore just line out that you have been covered by NHS since god-knows-when and you'll be fine. You might need to get some proof from the NHS though...

cyn, I did tick that tongue.gif Just they don't understand the rest

Will try putting down UK National Health Service since my date of birth and see what happens!

Every UK citizen is entitled to NHS treatment from birth.
There are no "contributions".
Free at the point of delivery.
(also eligible are lots of UK residents who are not citizens).
The only way out if you wish to avoid this (in the UK) is to go to prison
or join the armed services... (or go abroad)
Even the super rich stay in the NHS - just in case.
Opting out of the NHS is unknown and nonsensical
(or so I was told when working for the NHS Central Registry).
At birth you are given an NHS No. - If you do not know this then
your UK GP practice will tell you - or the local UK Health Authority..
It's a ten digit number and supersedes a range of numbering systems going back to 1939.

I had to get my old GP to write a letter to AOK before I could get insurance. They like the official letterheads and all that I think! You can imagine my old GPs bemusement can't you?
