I'm from Singapore too. When's the next meet up?
Hi all, count me in too.
Kenichi
Jan 5 2007, 1:52 pm
I'm Malaysian and I would like to join in for the next meet up too. But there does not appear to be any in preparation. Should we organise one?
BTW, when is Chinese New Year for 2007?
Chinese New Year 2007 is 18th February.
Okay Kenichi, let's have a Singapore-Malaysia gathering next week.
Date: 12th Jan (Fri)
Time: 7pm
Venue: Kam Yi, Rosenstr 6
(http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/kam_yi.html)
Please post to include your participation here, then I will make a reservation by next Thursday.

I'm in too.
Anyone knows directions how to get there from the marienplatz? And how will I recognise you guys?
Kenichi
Jan 9 2007, 3:42 pm
Yes, how do I recognise any of you? Should we wait at the entrance instead?
To internetaholic, try www.mappy.com for detailed maps. If not, just take the S-bahn from Marienplatz to Rosenheimerplatz. Get out from the S bahn station and walk down the road which brings u to Gasteig (the brown blockish building. You should be heading west from Rosenheimerplatz. Kam Ying would be on your left, about half way between the s bahn sta and the river isar.

My suggestion is someone book a table under his/her name and the rest just ask for that reservation.

How to recognise asians in Germany... Hmm, tricky. I can give you a tip for spotting the women, they are normally well dressed, and accompanied by a fat German bloke with a wallet.
OOOOHHH! first TT racist comment of 2007 prize goes to me. Lah.

Well, you certainly did not describe me as my husband is not German and is not fat!

Don riina is actually one nice guy and the reason he is giving hatred comments is because of needing attention

My love/hate relationship with Singapore will never end. Joking aside, I do seriously like meeting Singaporeans though, the conversation ALWAYS turns to food, and if there is one thing that Singapore does extremely well, its food. The place is incredible if you are hungry. As anyone who has met me knows, I am a skinny bastard, but when I lived in Singapore, I had a lovely round fat belly. It was great.
SarahKT
Jan 10 2007, 8:35 am
If you have the view that Singapore is famous for its food, then you obviously have not been to Penang. Singapore food is ok...but not the best. You can find Penang food in Singapore (or those that advertise it as Penang food) but you will seldom find Singapore food in Penang.

Skinny guy with a huge round belly?
I don't think anyone from here wants to organize any events though. They talk about it a lot but it never materialises...kiasu?

Hi All,
So far the list isn't very long...

2, Kenichi
3, internetaholic
4, Why8
Will wait till tomorrow, if only 4 of us, we might arrange to meet another time instead, as I've also another invitation for dinner... or you guys can go ahead to meet.

Also, please note there are two (or more?) Kam Yi in Munich, the one I proposed earlier is actually right at Marienplatz, near to Rindermarkt, not the one at Rosenheimer Platz!
Directions: stand in front of the Marienplatz Rathaus with your back facing the Rathaus and walk along the street Rosenstr between Galerie Kaufhof and Wormland. The Kam Yi restaurant is on your left hand side, right next to Rosenapotheke.
Cheers!

Huh? Let me get this straight, you have _two_ dinner invitations on the same day at the same time, and depending on the crowd you will decide which one to go, and you're telling us this? How peculiar...
Were you expecting to find more than 10 Malaysians and 10 Singaporeans in TT Munich, which _all_ happen to want to go to your dinner gathering? Because technically speaking, you have one dinner "invitation", and one dinner which _you_ organised/planned. I am confused...

Oh my goodness, the kamyi resturant in marienplatz is crap and seldom asians are inside for meals. I know the owner of the Kamyi restaurant and the one which is edible will be the one in rosenheimerplatz

Sorry guys... just stating the facts above!
I miss penang laksa!!

Why8,
Yar, Hossan Leong is really fun. I've seen him in person when he performed in Alliance Francaise in Sg. He could even sing in French, really cool guy.

Hi hi! It would be great to meet up with you guys too for some eating session

OK ... let's set a date ... what about the weekend of Feb 3/4!!
which date is more perferred?

- good sea food
- authentic chinese food!!
what about you guys??!! let me know!!
Cheers
J
hi guys...
I would love to join in too, but i'm heading back singapore for Chinese new year, and a few Asian trip (biz)
for Dim Sum, you can go to Jade, i think they are the only one who serve something really close..
and their chinese food is pretty good too
will be back in March - and if there's anymore Makan trip, i'll sure pop by!

Have you noticed how far the sea is from Munich?
The weekend of 3/4 Feb is fine with me. I am new here too, but I have only tried the chinese restaurant near the
Isartor tram stop, the one facing the
Isar river. It is OK, not too much msg, but a bit pricey. I see many Asian families there, and the cooks look chinese to me. I am curious about Jade though.
internetaholic
Jan 24 2007, 9:25 am
Me too. I am curious as to if they even have something that's a semblence of Dim Sum. So Jade then?
Kenichi
Jan 24 2007, 9:36 am
From past review, Jade seems to have done well. So Jade? On lah! When and who? So far we have:
1. internetaholic (aka workaholic as she works till very late)
2. jeng, and
3. moi
I would propose Sunday lunch/dinner. Saturday is usually hectic with shopping and bill-sorting and referring to dictionary for german words in official letters...
internetaholic
Jan 24 2007, 10:05 am
Agreed. I prefer Sunday dinner. So it's gonna be in Feb? Say, 11th feb? or 18th feb? or 25th feb?
Kenichi
Jan 24 2007, 10:09 am
I thought it was the 3/4 Feb weekend? Thus 4th Feb? Do we wait for Kif or have another one when he comes back?
@Kif : Do you know what "kif" means in French
jeng
Jan 24 2007, 10:45 am
I think Jade sounds great ... i looked it up. It's located at Hofangerstr. 7 81735, Munich.
Can we do a late lunch on Feb 4th??!! Let's say around 13:00?? Instead?? However, if everyone INSISTS on dinner ... i can arrange for that too!!
WOW .. i wasn't expecting such a fast reply ... cool!! I too am intersted in how "good" their dim sum willl be ... and sort of selection they have!
We can do another one in March too ... perhaps at a different resturant too!!
ok .. cheers!

Jade is not bad, but not too cheap. To get there, just take the U5 to Michaelibad, and take the exit to Hofangerstr, and walk for about 2 minutes.
Dim sum there isn't great -- you order from a menu, and then wait for them to warm it up, and tastes like they just warm up frozen dim sum -- but it's probably the best available in Munich. I miss the pushcarts... Be prepared to pay about Euro 15 per person including Chinese tea.
Please put me down as a "Maybe" on Feb 4th, will have to confirm on short notice, sorry.
Kenichi
Jan 24 2007, 1:25 pm
There are 3 of us (internetaholic, jeng and me), two voted for 4th Feb. So should we just fix it to 4th Feb, 13H00?
Since there are only three of us, do you think we should book? Or we just walk in and start feasting?
