Hi
My name is Paul and I'm moving to Munich in the next few weeks due to being relocated with work.
I've never been before, but I hear it is a beautiful city.
Can anyone recommend any places of interest in and around the area?
Thanks.
There is so much - in all directions. The Alps are within spitting range... Mad Ludwig's castles...
Try SEARCH & look at the threads.
Or visit
the Munich website - they have an English option as well.

suggest you come initially for a weekend to explore. Good idea to do that before comittin g to a flat or area to live. During the summer months there are heaps of tours but some of the cycle tours (google for example "Mikes Bikes Munich") can offer a quick and enjoyable way to get to know the centre of the city.
Munich is a charming city with many historic places to see such as the Asamkirche, Theatinerkirche, Residenz, Sankt Peteturm, Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt. Nymphenburgschloss, Königsplatz (museums and galleries), Deutsche Museum, Englischergarten etc etc It is also the capital of beer and so is dotted by many rather wonderful beergardens that are absolutely hotching this time of year.
As others have said, the Alps and lakes with some of the most beautiful outdoors environments in Europe are very close by with ample sports and leisure opportunities. The castles of Mad Ludwig (Neuschwanstein, Chiemsee, Linderhoof etc) are all a quickk drive aaway as well as Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Berchtesgaden, Salzburg, Nurnberg etc etc etc
